Founded in 1999, Saigon Aquarium (SGA) began as a small but highly organized freshwater ornamental fish breeding company in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. At a time when few international buyers were willing to try tropical fish from Vietnam, we worked relentlessly to prove our quality and reliability. Today, we are proud to be recognized as one of Vietnam’s leading breeders and exporters of tropical ornamental fish—freshwater and marine—serving wholesalers and importers worldwide.

DISCUS

Discus fish belong to the Cichlid genus, originating from the Amazon river. They are referred to as “Kings of Aquarium” because of their beauty and vibrant coloring. At our Saigon Aquarium farms, we breed discus ranging across numerous color varieties.

Loaches are fish of the superfamily Cobitoidea. They are freshwater, bottom-dwelling fish found in rivers and creeks throughout Eurasia and northern Africa. Saigon Aquarium, we offer a wide range of wild caught loach from whole country Vietnam.

CATFISH

Catfish are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. They are named after their prominent barbels that resemble cat whiskers. Saigon Aquarium offer 3 types of Catfish: Corydoras Catfish, Pleco Catfish and Sutchi Catfish.

BARB

Barb come from a ray-finned fish family the non-phylogenetic group, including two of the most common species in aquarium Barbus and Puntius. Besides them, there are many other species in the Cyprinidae family.

BETTA

Betta fish, infamously known as the “Fighting fish” for their hot headed nature. They are a member of the gourami family fish, native to Mekong basin of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

TETRA

Tetra fish has became the common name for various types of small freshwater characiform fish. Native to Africa, Central America, and South America, Tetras belong to the Characidae family, former subfamilies also being Alestidae (the “African tetras”) and Lebiasinidae. The Characidae are distinguished from other fish by the presence of a small adipose fin between the dorsal and caudal fins.

Gouramis are a group of freshwater anabantiform fishes that comprise the family Osphronemidae. Gouramis are native to Asia.

Danio fish is a group of small minnow-type fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family. They are primarily native to the fresh waters of South and Southeast Asia.

GUPPY

Guppy Fish also known as Poecilia Reticulata, is a species of freshwater fish from the family Poeciliidae of order Cyprinodontiformes, native to an area of America. Like almost all of the American members of the Poeciliidae family, it is a live-bearing fish. Guppies bred in captivity dispose of a large color range and detailed patterns, contributing to them becoming one of the most popular fish species in the aquarium industry.

PLATY

Platy is a common name for freshwater fish in the Xiphophorus genus, including Xiphophorus Maculatus and Xiphophorus Variatus. They are live-bearers, closely related to Swordtail fish and are native to the East Coast of Central America and southern Mexico. Platy Fish bred in captivity dispose of many color varieties, and patterns, making them widely popular with hobbyists and serious aquarists.

SWORDTAIL

Swordtail Fish, scientifically known as Xiphophorus Hellerii, are a species of freshwater/brackish fish in the Poeciliidae family of order Cyprinodontiformes. Swordifsh are live-bearers and are closely related to the platy fish (Xiphophorus Maculatus), native to parts of North and Central America. The name ‘swordtail’ is derived from its elongated lower lobe of the male’s caudal fin (tailfin). Interestingly, female swordtail though larger than the male, lacks the signature ‘sword’. Wild Swordtail fish is green colored, with a red or brown lateral stripe and speckles on the dorsal and, sometimes, caudal fins. The male’s ‘sword’ is yellow, edged in black below. Captive breeding swordtail fish dispose of various color and pattern varieties and have became largely popular in the aquarium industry.

MOLLY

Molly Fish is the common name of freshwater fish originating from the Poecolia genus, including Poecilia Sphenops and Poecilia Latipinna. This elegant live-bearer is closely related to the Guppy fish. They are native to the coastal area of Mexico and live in both freshwater streams and brackish waters. Wild Molly fish coloring is duller, often grey. Molly bred in captivity on the other hand can be found ranging through many vibrant color varieties and patterns, making them a stunning tank mate to posses.

Cichlids are fish from the family Cichlidae in the order Cichliformes. They are one of the largest vertebrate families in the world. They are most diverse in Africa and South America.

ANGEL FISH

Angelfish, or Pterophyllum- the Latin name, is from a family of Cichlidae. Native in South America, they are now bred in Saigon Aquarium in many varieties.

The Gold Fish (Carassius auratus) is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of order Cypriniformes. It is one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish. Gold Fish is native to East Asia.

MEDAKA

Medaka (Oryzias latipes) are small, hardy freshwater fish known for their vibrant colors, peaceful nature, and remarkable adaptability. Originating from East Asia, they thrive in a wide range of water conditions and are popular among hobbyists for their ease of care and active behavior. Medaka are also prized for their diverse color varieties—such as orange, white, and shimmering metallic strains—making them an attractive choice for both beginners and advanced aquarists.

Founded in 1999, Saigon Aquarium (SGA) began as a small but highly organized freshwater ornamental fish breeding company in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. At a time when few international buyers were willing to try tropical fish from Vietnam, we worked relentlessly to prove our quality and reliability. From Local Breeder to Global Exporter

Our journey started with collecting and reselling ornamental fish within Vietnam. As demand grew, we built our first breeding farm spanning 8,000 sqm, marking the beginning of our long-term commitment to sustainable aquaculture. With valuable support from experienced Czech fish experts, we trained our team in advanced breeding and fish health management. Over the years, we combined international knowledge with local conditions to develop our own proven system for breeding and raising high-quality fish.

Exporting Vietnamese Ornamental Fish Since 2000

In 2000, we completed our first official export shipments, marking the start of SGA’s international presence. Since then, Saigon Aquarium has grown into a reliable ornamental fish exporter in Vietnam, shipping consistently to more than 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and beyond.

This wide export footprint reflects our ability to meet diverse market requirements, strict import regulations, and varying customer standards worldwide.

Innovation, Discovery, and Industry Recognition

Between 2008 and 2010, we expanded our focus beyond breeding to include responsible wild collection and species discovery. One of our proudest achievements was introducing Sewellia lineolata to the global market—quickly becoming a standout species in the ornamental fish industry.

In 2010, following continuous advancements in quality and operational standards, SGA became the first Vietnamese member of OFI (Ornamental Fish International)—a major step forward for Vietnam’s ornamental fish export community.
