Sari-Sari is a quaint, undiscovered gem nestled in the heart of Leon Valley and the close-by medical center.
Family owned and operated, Sari-Sari embodies the feeling of home, as it transports you to a familiar place or one yet to be discovered.
Immerse yourself in the full-bodied flavors of traditional dishes recreated in the kitchen of epicure, Adam Valenzuela.
Sari-Sari meaning "good variety" started as a small oriental market operated out of the Valenzuela family's garage. In 1995, it first established itself two doors down from its current location, providing Filipino products to the small Filipino community in San Antonio. Entrepreneurs, Adam and Imelda Valenzuela, sought to expand their business and opened up a Filipino restaurant next door. With their adherence to traditional Filipino recipes accompanied by unique interpretation, the Valenzuela family opened up Oriental Cuisine in 1998, becoming one of the first Filipino restaurants in San Antonio. Slowly the restaurant would expand to include a bakery with fresh Filipino delicacies, desserts, and pastries.
Sari-Sari Restaurant, Market & Bakery, now owned and operated by daughter Camille and husband Adrian De Los Reyes, continues to provide authentic Filipino dining to those who delight in sharing food and exploring new flavors. “We are part of a generation that want to put our food on the map and bring awareness to our culture, to honor what our parents worked so hard to preserve and to pass down. We want Filipino food to be a part of the conversation, so let us set the table and let the food tell our story.”

3 San Antonio Market Cafes We Love That You Probably Will Too
December 13, 2017
San Antonio Current- Jess Elizarraras
“For nearly 20 years, the shop has catered mainly to San Antonio’s small Filipino community with hand-rolled lumpia rolls, adobo chicken and crispy pata (marinated, deep-fried pork shoulder), house-baked pan de sal, all-day breakfast, and for those with a sweet tooth, halo-halo, a magical combination of shaved ice, sweetened condensed milk, colorful coconut jellies, red bean, garbanzo beans and ube ice cream in a beautiful shade of purple.“It’s about time people found out about our food,” De Los Reyes said”

10 San Antonio Dishes to Die For
December 6, 2019
San Antonio Current- Ron Bechtol and Lea Thompson
“This family-owned spot has been serving up Filipino specialties and sweets for more than 20 years, but its real star is the Kamayan Boodle Fight, a family-style feast that requires diners to forgo utensils and eat by hand. For those new to Filipino food, the Boodle Fight is the perfect intro to a storied cuisine that continues to evolve and exchange with other cultures. Piles of rice heaped onto banana leaves and surrounded by crispy lumpia, lechon kawali (fried pork belly), pancit, flavorful fried Milk Fish, shrimp adobo and fresh fruits and vegetables. Technically, this is a shared experience rather than a single dish, but it’s one worth having. On the way out, stop by the register for baked goods like the mocha roll, pan de ube or cassava cake, or stay for the halo-halo — a sweet, creamy dessert made with shaved ice and evaporated milk and served with tropical fruits and beans.”

“This 140 ounces of deliciousness fits perfectly in a diverse city like San Antonio.”
“Its name, halo-halo, means "mix-mix" and that is precisely what Filipino food is, a vibrant and tasty mixture of tropical, Asian and Spanish influences.”
"We're just working on breaking the barrier, on allowing Filipino food to cross over into mainstream culture and be recognizable as a delicious staple cuisine in anyone and everyone's diet," finishes De Los Reyes.”

“Both owners were pleasantly surprised by the success of their pivot. “When the pandemic hit … we thought we were going to get hit pretty bad,” Adrian said. “But the city has rallied together, and they’ve shown so much support for local small businesses here in the city.” They paid that support forward by helping where they could, including by donating meals to the University Hospital and joining a fundraiser for the San Antonio Food Bank. “We’re trying to do our best to give back to all those people that have supported us,” Camille said.”

"We really encourage everyone to dig in with their hands," she said. "Growing up Filipino has been so much fun. I feel blessed to be born with the palate I have, because I can feel like I can enjoy food in different flavors, different textures."
"Filipino food to me is something from my heart," De los Reyes added.”
On top of two tables, De los Reyes set down banana leaves, then piled on steamed rice, fried rice noodle, seafood, egg rolls, vegetables, pork belly and their corresponding dip.
The menu at Sari-Sari Filipino Restaurant Market & Bakery includes grilled pork skewers and fried lumpia.

“At a wedding in 2019, I got to meet the extended family of a Filipino American friend. They were warm and welcoming, and they knew how to party. He joined me at Sari-Sari, and it felt like the party picked up where we left off.
We filled the table with crispy chunks of fried pork called lechon kawali in brown gravy, long skewers of grilled pork in sweet sauce, aromatic chicken soup called arroz caldo, lumpia as thin as tiparillo cigars, a breakfast of sweet bacon and garlic rice called tosilog, a big frosty bowl of halo-halo with shaved ice and a rainbow of sweet add-ons, and of course dinuguan, the best in this report.
Sari-Sari is my friend’s favorite Philippine restaurant in town. It’s mine now, too.”
