Digital Secure Key is here, an easier and more secure way to bank online. Once your Digital Secure Key is set up, your physical Security Device will be deactivated and can be discarded.

What is a security token?

A security token helps protect you against fraud and other security threats when using mobile and online banking. Whether digital or physical, the device allows you to verify your identity and access your full range of services.

What types of security token are available?

Digital Secure Key

Accessed via the HSBC Singapore app, the Digital Secure Key replaces your physical Security Device. A Digital Secure Key allows you to generate security codes from your mobile or tablet, so you can access your full range of mobile and online banking services.

Digital Secure Key is more convenient, more secure and more environmentally friendly.

Security Device

A Security Device is a small electronic device that generates security codes. These codes allow you to access your full range of online and mobile banking services securely.

Customers who choose to use a Security Device may not be able to access the HSBC Singapore app. To use the HSBC Singapore app, you will need to switch to Digital Secure Key when prompted to and your Security Device will be deactivated.

How do I activate my security token?

If you're new to mobile banking with HSBC and you're downloading the app for the first time, your Digital Secure Key will be activated automatically.

If you've got an existing Security Device, and want to upgrade, you'll need to activate your Digital Secure Key in the app.

To activate your Digital Secure Key:

1. Log on to the latest version of the HSBC Singapore app.
2. When prompted to activate your Digital Secure Key, select 'Continue'.

Digital Secure Key is now activated and your Security Device will be deactivated immediately. You can also now enable Fingerprint or Face ID* to easily generate your security codes.

How do I use my security token?

You use your security token (digital or physical) to generate a security code. This allows you to access online and mobile banking and approve specific transactions and account updates.

Step 1: Make sure you have the latest version of the HSBC Singapore app. Launch the app, but don't log on. Select 'Generate security code'.

Step 2: Choose what you'd like to do:

• log on to online banking
• transaction verification
• get re-authentication code

Step 3: To log on or get a re-authentication code, enter your 6-digit PIN or use biometric authentication* (if you've enabled it). To verify a transaction, you'll need to enter the requested digits from your transaction first.

Step 4: Your security code will be displayed. Enter it where requested.

Step 1: Press and hold the green button for 2 seconds to turn on your Security Device.

Step 2: Enter your Security Device PIN.

Step 3: Press the green button to obtain a 6-digit security code.

Why do I need a security token for my account?

Whether digital or physical, the token allows you to verify your identity when logging on to online banking. They are also used to authorize certain investments, transactions and account updates.

What is the difference between the Digital Secure Key and Security Device?

Both devices serve the same purpose. The key difference is that you can access the Digital Secure Key from within the HSBC Singapore app on your mobile or tablet, while the Security Device is a separate piece of hardware.

Can I have a Digital Secure Key and Security Device at the same time?

No, you can only have either a Digital Secure Key or a Security Device at any one time. Upon activating your Digital Secure Key, your Security Device will be deactivated immediately.

How do I upgrade to Digital Secure Key?

The Digital Secure Key is available on iPhone, iPad and Android phones, as long as you have the HSBC Singapore app. If you don't have the app, you can download it from the App Store or Google Play Store.

If you don't have an existing Security Device and you're downloading the app for the first time, your Digital Secure Key will be activated automatically.

If you've already got the HSBC Singapore app and you've been using a physical Security Device, follow the instructions on the app to upgrade to the Digital Secure Key.

Can I switch back to a physical Security Device if I don't like using Digital Secure Key?

Only customers who are unable to use Digital Secure Key can request for a physical Security Device. If you think this may apply to you, please get in touch.

Is a Digital Secure Key as safe as a Security Device?

You can rest assured that Digital Secure Key is completely secure. It is built with advanced security and protection features and is more secure than a physical Security Device. To use Digital Secure Key, you will be required to authenticate yourself each time by either providing your 6-digit PIN or biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID / Fingerprint ID). Once you have activated Digital Secure Key on your device, your Digital Secure Key is linked to your personal accounts, and only you can access them through your Digital Secure Key-linked device. Other users cannot log on to the HSBC Singapore app using your Digital Secure Key-linked device.

Can I set up Digital Secure Key on more than one device?

You can have your Digital Secure Key set up on 1 mobile device only.
