CHSAD C Need to replace my well-worn shimano 540 pedals. Looking at the new xt version. Are they the same exact thing or has shimano changed them in anyway? Anybody tried them as of yet? #1 · Dec 28, 2007 Need to replace my well-worn shimano 540 pedals. Looking at the new xt version. Are they the same exact thing or has shimano changed them in anyway? Not on the shimano sight...........My 540's probably weigh 300 grams from all the knocks they have taken. Great pedals. #4 · Jan 1, 2008 Perhaps the XT's have higher quality bearings? #5 · Jan 1, 2008 (Edited) I am using the M520 on my rigid hardtail and so far it is still working and so I will keep it till it dies ... no point changing something if it still works beautifully ... M540 is £5 cheaper than the M770 here in the UK ... ie $9 more. #6 · Jan 1, 2008 I am still wondering about the weight of the xt's? At first I just wanted to know if they were basically the same thing that way if I get them I can expect the same great performance. I figured that 959 was now XTR and 540 was now XT and would no longer use the titles 959 and 540. It seems that shimano is still producing the 540 pedal however according to their site and not the 959 (united states). #7 · Jan 2, 2008 A quick internet search and I found one site that lists the new XT pedals at 340 grams. So slightly lighter than the 540's. #8 · Jan 2, 2008 Nice, what site stated the weight? #9 · Jan 20, 2008 The 540 pedal don't belong to any serie. The serie XT has the pedal 770 The serie XTR has the pedal 970 I think that both 540 and 770 are basically the same, but 770 is a bit lighter than 540. Insert Quotes Post Reply
