The Shimano CS-HG51-8 is an 8-speed cassette at the Alivio level. It features Hyperglide technology (HG) for precise, smooth shifting and is designed for touring and MTB riding. Compared to previous 8- and 7-speed cassettes, it is characterised by a lower weight.

Technology:

HG Cassette Shimano Hyperglide cassettes (HG cassettes) have strategically-positioned ramps and special tooth profiles so that the chain can be completely guided directly onto the next sprocket. This prevents the chain from just touching the tips of the teeth before it actually touches down. This optimises the chain guide and enables fast, highly efficient shifting.
