I don't want to say how they sound from memory, so you'll have to be a little patient as I'm in the middle of moving and these are already in a box... somewhere :) I can however tell you that they are definitely in the lower-fidelity bracket, I can't say I was impressed with these much, but they're quite unlike anything else I've ever owned. Maybe the caps need replacing, I'm not so familiar with these kind of things and how they might affect the sound. 🗃️My Headphone Measurement Database - Now with over 600 graphs! ▶️ GREQ Reviews on YouTube - Reviews, Vintage Headphones, DIY, etc 🎧 YH-4000, SR-Lambda, RR1 Conquest, Fosi i5, 105 AER, Cal.1H, / Astral, Orchestra 2, KB16, Martilo, Tony Ng

All are very nice and the M44 and the 51s, even the 64 are in incredibly nice shape. God I wish I had one or two of their AIWA counterparts... tascamtascam

Got lucky on eBay last week:     Audio-Technica ATH-8     This model is equivalent to the Signet TK-33 and comes with its own custom energizer that runs off of speaker taps. Frequently this set shows up as "for parts/not working" due to a cable short at the connector. Fortunately, the connector is very easy to disassemble and work on, making this a <10 minute fix. I worked on these while watching YGOTAS with a friend and was finished within one episode.    This is a bipolar electret, AKA back electret, which is like an electrostat, but in reverse. A permanent charge is placed on the stators and the signal is run through the diaphragm.    On a traditional (unipolar) electret, the coating that holds the permanent charge is placed on the diaphragm, which meant the diaphragm had to be made rather thick to accommodate it. Both this and the coating itself weighed it down significantly, resulting in a very insensitive transducer that was overall just low-fi sounding compared to a true electrostat. Back electrets bypass this limitation entirely, and can have a diaphragm just as thin as a true electrostat.      Simply put, these things sound ******* great. Little bass to speak of, but absolutely amazing punch and dynamic range while being extremely clean and smooth. Ever so slightly warm, and not thin or pitched-up sounding like most STAX offerings. Super clean, airy treble. Mids have a slight "soft" texture while still being highly resolving -- a pretty unique trait. Gives the sound a relaxing, sweet character.        The distortion you're seeing here is my puny 20WPC Class-T amp struggling to get 95dB out of these, and the lack of bass is not a technology limit, but due to these being 55mm drivers run in a fully open configuration. Not to mention the fact that the earpads are all sorts of ****ed up after all these years.     Audio-Technica, home of the worst aging earpads ever. Even the mighty Sony does not stand a chance.     One hot date with a lint roller later and everyone's happy.     Before/after several sheets of lint roller (yellow is after). No meaningful change in FR...     ... but decay has cleaned up a little bit.    These have been monopolizing my ear time since I got them. Keepers for sure. ----------------- Headphones: Stax SR-Lambda Signature | DRAGON-FEATHERS S/N0002 | Pioneer MASTER-1S ----------------- Home Rig: TEAC UD-501 -> Sansui B-3000 (mods) -> Sony ECA-80 (mods) ----------------- MrTechAgent

Hard to build and come by, I think in total only three adapters like these were made by Head-Fi Members.  Works beautifully.        Mmmm, yes. Filthy glue is always a good sign.    Tried the EDT990V and Brainwavz Sheepskin. Sheepkin sounded the best but looked hideous, I didn't want to destroy the class of the ET1000 with a poor implementation of Aftermarket Earpads. EDT990V had the familiar characteristic and was not any good with the ET1000.    Decided to stick with the stock pads, added an Acoustically transparent mesh to protect from dust and sweat. I find it hard to believe how the ET1000 still functions after so many years, you sweat like crazy with these stock pads. A Lambda wouldn't last a second.    Mandatory on crotch shot.      Max Choiral

The SS-3 mounting, a sadly and poor, Neodymium 40mm Transducer.   Use for my ATH-2100 a Sennheiser OEM Cable. A classic OFC Cable.   Toshiba Prev
