This article describes the formula syntax and usage of the SIN function in Microsoft Excel.

Description

Returns the sine of the given angle.

Syntax

SIN(number)

The SIN function syntax has the following arguments:

• Number    Required. The angle in radians for which you want the sine.

Remark

If your argument is in degrees, multiply it by PI()/180 or use the RADIANS function to convert it to radians.

Example

Copy the example data in the following table and paste it in cell A1 of a new Excel worksheet. For formulas to show results, select them, press F2, and then press Enter. If you need to, you can adjust the column widths to see all the data.

Formula	Description	Result
=SIN(PI())	Sine of pi radians (0, approximately).	0.0
=SIN(PI()/2)	Sine of pi/2 radians.	1.0
=SIN(30*PI()/180)	Sine of 30 degrees.	0.5
=SIN(RADIANS(30))	Sine of 30 degrees.	0.5
