What's meant by a bearing with a tapered bore?

A bearing with a tapered bore is typically made up of a cup and cone assembly. The outer ring is the cup while the cone consists of the inner ring, rollers and cage. Thanks to this stiff structure there are fewer moving components in it, so there's less risk of noise and friction. It's designed for use on machine parts that need to accommodate combined axial and radial loads on a shaft.
