READING

1. Below are pictures from websites about festivals in Viet Nam. Work in groups to answer from the following questions. (Dưới đây là những bức tranh từ các website về các lễ hội ở Việt Nam. Làm việc theo nhóm để trả lời các câu hỏi sau.)

• 1. What are the people doing in each picture? (Mọi người đang làm gì trong mỗi bức hình?)They are doing worshipping ceremony. (Họ đang làm nghi lễ thờ cúng.)
• 2. Who do people worship at the Hung King Temple Festival? ( Mọi người thờ cúng ai ở lễ hội Đền Hùng? )Hung King. (Vua Hùng.)
• 3. Who do people worship at the Huong Pagoda Festival? ( Mọi người thờ cúng ai ở lễ hội Chùa hương?)Buddha. (Đức Phật.)

2. Now read the information about these festivals to check your ideas.

• A. Lễ hội đền Hùng diễn ra từ ngày 8 đến ngày 11 tháng ba âm lịch ở Phú Thọ. Lễ hội được tổ chức để thờ cúng Vua Hùng những người đã dựng nước và là những vị vua đầu tiên của đất nước. Lễ hội có đám rước từ chân núi Nghĩa Lĩnh cho đến Đền Thượng trên đỉnh núi. Ở đây có nghi lễ dâng hương và những đặc sản như bánh chưng, bánh dày, mâm ngũ quả cúng các Vua Hùng. Hơn nữa, cũng có nhiều hoạt động vui như đánh đu tre, múa sư tử, đấu vật và trình diễn hát xoan.
• B. Lễ hội Phật giáo dược tổ chức hàng năm và kéo dài 3 tháng từ tháng Giêng đến tháng Ba âm lịch. Trong suốt lễ hội, khách tham quan đến từ khắp các nơi trong nước và từ nước ngoài tham gia vào đám rước và dâng hương, hoa, trái cây và nến để thờ cúng Đức Phật ở chùa. Ngoài nghi lễ, người ta còn tham gia những hoạt động như leo núi, khám phá hang động, chụp hình cảnh đẹp.

• 1. When does the Hung King Temple Festival take place? (Lễ hội Đền Hùng diễn ra vào khi nào?)=> The Hung King Temple festival takes place from 8th to 11th day of the third lunar month.
• 2.What is included in the offerings to the Hung Kings? (Cái gì có trong lễ vật vua Hùng?)=> Incense, specialities such as chung cakes, day cakes and five-fruit trays.
• 3. Why is it joyful to go to the Hung King Temple Festival? (Tại sao thật thú vị khi đến Lễ hội đền Hùng?)=> Because there are many joyful activities including bamboo swings, lion dances, wrestling and xoan singing performances.
• 4. What do people do to worship Buddha at the Huong Pagoda Festival? (Người ta làm gì để thờ cúng Đức Phật ở lễ hội Chùa Hương?)=> People join the procession and make offerings of incense, flower, fruit and candles.
• 5. Which of the activities at the Huong Pagoda Festival do you like most? (Những hoạt động nào ở lễ hội Chùa Hương mà bạn thích nhất?)=> Eploring caves.

a. Work in pairs. Your teacher is organising a trip. You have two options: going to Huong Pagoda or going to Hung King Temple. You have to decide the following: (Làm việc theo cặp. Giáo viên đang sắp xếp một chuyến đi chơi. Em có hai lựa chọn: đi chùa Hương hoặc đi Đền Hùng. Em phải quyết định những điều sau:)

1. Which place you prefer to go to? Explain your choice. ( Em thích đi địa điểm nào hơn? Giải thích sự lựa chọn của mình.)

• I prefer to go to Huong Pagoda because I really want to travel along Yen Stream by boat. How about you?( Mình muốn đi chùa Hương hơn bởi vì mình thực sự muốn đi dọc sông Yến bằng thuyền. Còn bạn thì sao?)
• I prefer to go to Hung King Temple because it's one of the most important festivals of the country. Moreover, there are a lot of joyful activities there.(Mình thích đi Đền Hùng hơn vì nó là một trong những lễ hội quan trọng nhấy của nước ta. Hơn nữa, có nhiều hoạt động thú vị ở đó nữa.)

2. What things should you take with you? Why? (Em muốn mang theo những đồ gì? Tại sao?)

• I think we should take a bottle of water because we'll need it when we're climbing the mountain. ( Mình nghĩ chúng ta nên mang theo một chai nước bởi vì chúng ta sẽ cần nó khi chúng ta leo núi.)
• In my opinion, we must bring fruits to offer Hung Kings. ( Theo mình, chúng ta phải mang theo trái cây để dâng lên các Vua Hùng.)
• I think we should bring snacks because it's very easy to serve. ( Mình nghĩ chúng ta nên mang đồ ăn nhẹ vì nó rất dễ để sử dụng.)
• I think flowers are very necessary because we need to offer them to the Buddha. ( Mình nghĩ hoa rất cần thiết bởi vì chúng ta cần dâng lên Phật.)
• Incense is indispensable because we need it when we go to the pagoda. ( Hương thì không thể thiếu bởi vì chúng ta cần nó khi đi vào chùa.)
• I'd like to take a camera with me because I want to take pictures of the beautiful scenery. ( Mình muốn mang theo một chiếc máy ảnh vì mình muốn chụp những bức ảnh phong cảnh đẹp.)
• We need to bring trainers because we will climb the mountain. (Chúng ta cần mang giầy thể thao bởi vì chúng ta sẽ leo núi.)
• I think we should also bring an umbrella in case of the rain. (Mình nghĩ chúng ta cũng nên mang theo ô phòng trường hợp trời mưa.)
