Slack is a collaboration tool providing real-time online chat that allows media sharing, alerts, and discussion on any number of topics. There are many Slack channels (essentially online chat rooms). Anyone can join public channels; for private channels, anyone currently in the channel can invite others. There is no enterprise-wide Workspace (a workspace is a collection of channels). Please contact your local technical support provider to find out which Slack Workspace you should use.

Getting Help

Slack is not an official CIT product, so official support is limited.

  • Using Slack (links to many articles)
  • Finding and Joining a Workspace
  • Remote Work Resources

LinkedIn Learning has a course called Learning Slack. The service is free to all current Cornell faculty, students, and staff. Learn more at the IT@Cornell LinkedIn Learning site.

CIT users can post questions to the #help-slack channel or contact the IT Service Desk. (Your unit's workspace may have a similar channel; check with your local technical support provider.)

For non-CIT users, although Slack is not officially supported, the IT Service Desk may be able to direct you to available resources.
