In October 2023, SMBC acquired 15% equity stake in Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) – a major Vietnamese bank with a strong presence in the retail and SME sectors. Leveraging VPBank’s nationwide branch network enhances our presence in Vietnam, expands business collaboration and further strengthens our growth strategy in the country. SMBC’s successful private placement will unlock opportunities to further contribute to the development of Vietnam’s financial industry.
