ZD. July 3, 2025 at 03:01 PM Normal everyday usage of the 888 on Samsung galaxy s21 ultra could warm up the device, gaming on it will cause it to achieve atmospheric entry like temperatures. Something is wrong with the phone's cooling system, but the chip runs hotter in general as compared to the 865, which still gets the job done on anything +4 Reply
4 Years Wasted on PUBG with few different Mobiles October 23, 2024 at 11:27 AM So in my opinion, if the SD888 chip is in a Samsung mobile, the gaming experience will be very poor. But if the same chip is in an Aquos R6, the gaming experience will be excellent, to the point that enemies might think you're a hacker. So, it's all about the mobile company, not the chip. I wasted 4 years on PUBG using 5 different Android mobiles and an iPhone XR. During all this time, the only thing I’ve learned is that if your mobile is cool and the latest model, you can knock out the enemy with just 3 bullets. But no matter how fast your mobile is, if it gets hot, you'll end up getting killed. Secondly, it doesn’t depend on the chip to determine how many FPS PUBG will give you. It depends on the mobile’s cooling system. And yes, even with the same chip, different mobile phone companies provide different performance. It’s not all about the chip. As a gamer, I don’t care if my mobile’s battery gets ruined. I only care about performance. +17 Reply

Ahmed May 5, 2024 at 08:32 AM As a user of a phone with Snapdragon 888 (Oppo Find X5) (I've previously used phones like Red Magic 5G with Snapdragon 865 and Realme GT Neo 2 with Snapdragon 870), performance is better on Snapdragon 888, especially on the GPU side (yes, it can get warm during heavy gaming) but it still delivers perfect performance. It's up to your choice and needs for the phone. That's my opinion as a user. +3 Reply
Oppo find x5 user May 3, 2024 at 07:11 PM I owned a Nubia Red Magic 5G with a Snapdragon 865 and now I have an Oppo Find X5 with a Snapdragon 888. The Snapdragon 888 is much better at running games, especially games that utilize the GPU like Wreckfest. On the other hand, games like Genshin Impact use the CPU more, so you won't see much difference in performance. As for heating issues, you just need to play in a cooler place with a temperature around 25°C, or just use a desk fan and everything will run smoothly. Don't play in a place with 35°C or more and then tell me there are overheating issues. +14 Reply
FABv60 June 22, 2021 at 07:58 AM The SD888 has boosted AI at 26TOPS while the SD865 is at 14TOPS. The only other difference is the A78 ARM cores and the single X1 main core. The Adreno 650 and 660 is the same exact GPU. The 660 is just overclocked almost 300MHz and running on 5nm. From what I've tested the Adreno 650 which has the same 1,024 ALU's runs at an even 1TFLOP of FP32 compute sustainable, which is more then enough for anything. Heck the Adreno 630 (512ALU's) is still a viable GPU. In mobile the GPU and CPU scale almost perfectly. That's why the Adreno 660 at 840-870MHz scales performance up to almost a half a TFLOP (500GFlops) of FP32 compute. The 5nm node shrink and memory bandwidth is enough to gain the other 200GFLOPS. The near 300MHz overclock on the 660 gives it a perfect 1to1 scale of 300GFLOPs. Once you hit about 6TFLOPs, the 100% scale drops off. Regardless its not all about the SOC, its what you do with it. I just found the LGv60 for $350 brand new, so bought 2. LG did quit the phone game but there phones don't just quit either. LG's phones are known for having impeccable audio which is what the V-series come with. They just updated the v60 to Android 11 and LG's v60 has ROOT capabilities so unofficial OS upgrades are possible. Where else can you get a SD865 device for $350 new (with the dual screen) a 2Vrms 3.5mm headphone jack with a 32bit ESS SABRE qDAC to clean up the audio through wired headphones. It also supports a pressure stylus like the NOTE series. It has a 6.8in LG P-OLED screen. Yeah, its 1080p but with a 5000mAh battery, that'll help. Also, it has MicroSD expandable storage with USB-c to HDMI out dongle support and MLT-STD 810G transit drop rated with IP68. The 810G rating is very important, it not only keeps the phone from just shattering but it's weather proof. I have the Galaxy NOTE 20 Ultra but, got stuck out on the freeway because a rock smashed my windshield and caused me to wreck. It was -5°c outside and it would just shut off because it was so cold. Luckily i had the V50 in my glove box so i swapped out sims and made the call to AAA. If i didn't have that phone i don't know what i would've done. I know from now on i keep a reliable phone on me. So, i figured a phone with a 5000mAh battery should relieve some stress. Not having to worry about charging a damn phone. I haven't found any phone close to that price with half of those features. I'm still sporting a fully Unlocked LGv40 which supports 24 BANDs including 2, 4, 12, 66 and 71 with AWS/3 and 4CA capabilities. Running on T-Mobile/Sprint this 4GLTE phone is basically the fastest 4GLTE thanks to the SD845 SOC. I anywhere between 30 to 50MB/s download. That's MegaBytes not bits. Plenty of speed even for today. Remember the fastest solid 4GLTE is faster than the spotty 5G. Also. BANDs 66 and 71 run on the 5G spectrum and can be used in AWS3 or 4CA. When people ask me what kind of phone i got, after admiring how nice it looks b i tell'em LG. Cause life is Good with LG. This LGv40 is running beta 12 with all the stock and audio/video mods working. With the other 2 V60's and SD865 SOC's and USB-c to HDMI out. I'll be glad to run these phones for a few more years. I've had other phones but i need my audio specifically a 2Volt 3.5mm jack to push my HD599's and expandable storage with HDMI out. It hard to find that in a new phone today. The only other phone with a qDAC from ESS is the ROG phone 5. Anyways, i like my Snapdragon based SOC's but if the Adreno 730 isn't 2.5TFLOPS looks i'll be going back to Samsung. I hear there Exynos 2200 SOC is supposed to be something to disrupt the smartphone game. +79 Reply

alek April 14, 2022 at 12:01 PM and temperature too! You can get warmer on cold winter days! That is why sd888 is best for you! I have 888 in my secondary phone and because of sd888, he is secondary and not primary as at stat he was! He is fast and everything flies till you pressure him a little more, then the party starts. +20 Reply
Dana April 19, 2022 at 06:26 PM alek, The thing is that RedMagic 6 Pro uses active cooling so it can keep the 888 cool and take more performance despite the lower efficiency Other phones with 888 throttle are worse than 865. +21 Reply
Samsung Fabrication sucks December 11, 2022 at 09:55 PM Dana, It's not about how good Redmagic 6 pro cooling is, it's all about the power efficiency of the CPU, and SD 888 is an expert at battery sucking, Samsung Fabrication sucks. +6 Reply
Qualcomm thick boy December 26, 2022 at 12:18 AM I really don't understand why any of you would pick the Snapdragon 888 when the only difference here is clock speed 🤷 Even the Snapdragon 888 performs worse when it comes to power management and stability. +18 Reply

jay February 3, 2021 at 07:27 PM Someone mentioned that the SD888 bottlenecks using emulators like dolphin wii and citra 3ds. can anyone confirm? +68 Reply
Can confirm it REALLY feels that way March 22, 2021 at 05:14 AM On the PPSSPP emulator, there's no performance difference at all between my s20 vs my s21. Same amount of minor lag and frame skipping at the same resolution. It has to do more with the emulator. You can only crank stuff up so high on old software using an old OS +17 Reply Name Message Send Send Comparisons
