Yes I know that the G9 is better camera but it’s massive, almost like the canon 70D and cost more (but not much, the G90 is over priced in my opinion), I’m using now more and more the Gx80 and I really like the smell size of this camera. But on the other side I’m replacing the 70D as my business main camera, I’m photographing more than 3000 children every year in kindergartens, portraits and full budy photos and I don’t know if the G90 will work as I’m expecting from pro camera. I need good image quality especially for big prints like A3 size, I’m also using video a lot , I think that For Video The G90 will be enough. So what do you think? Btw any one of you thinking to buy or already bought the G90? Brownie

It really ain't all that bad. I only notice if for some reason I switch back to the G7. I decided that if I were going to spend $1200 on a camera it wouldn't be for one with features I don't want or need (G-90-video). My $1200 was better spent on the G9. Since they both have an m43 20mp sensor, what makes you think the G90 won't produce excellent quality photos? cluber77

I think that there is a difference in image quality, I don’t know if it’s the same exact sensor except the M43 20mp. Also we all know that the G9 is the Gh5 but for stills photography, I may have to read some reviews about the G90. Brownie

I bought a G9, but it had mechanical problems right away. I returned it, but instead of exchanging for a new one, ordered the G95. The G95 fits my hand like a glove, the G9 did not. We are all constructed a little differently, and I guess my fingers are not flexible enough for every camera design that comes along. I think the G9 is more professional, with additional useful capabilities, such as more focus points and a bit faster auto focus, nice features like night lighting for the EVF and LCD, somewhat better IBIS, and probably several other things that I don't recall at the moment. It is bigger and heavier. To each their own, the G95 hits a sweet spot for me. mumu

In fact, there are times when it is the difference between getting a usable shot or not. So, for me, I think it makes sense to wait for the G90/95 to come down and then get one. I'm not crazy about the increased 4K crop of the G90/95, though. D7k1

The other day I was shooting with my friend and his D500/200-500 combo and I had the Pl100-400 on my G9 - I was amazed how light it was. If I were buying a camera that I wanted to use for 4 or 5 years it most certainly would be the G9. But then I have not see a G95 and it might be all that one needs. Do you need the lens that comes with the G95 - then that could be an important consideration. S

Good kit lens, but how many lenses covering that focal length do folks need. Current price in US is the same as the G9 body. At the current price, the G9 seems like a very solid deal. I tend to prefer smaller cameras and haven't decided if I'll go for a G9 or not. But I won't buy a G95 with a kit lens I don't need at the same price as the G9. IQ from the G9 and G95 might not be identical, but they should be really close. My guess is either would be better than your Canon 70d. ooheadsoo

Joined Jan 13, 2018 Messages 643 Let's be honest, for the kind of work you describe, the g90 is adequate. The real quandry is that panasonic dropped the price of the g9 about 9 months into its product cycle and the price, especially used rubs shoulders with the g90, especially if you can't get the body without the lens. If you want the appearance of a more professional camera, bigger grip, faster bursts (can your strobes keep up?) potentially more rugged build, two card slots, af joystick, no 4k crop, pop up flash, you know which to get. The rest is a wash. Do you want these things, and what are they worth to you? Panasonic doesn't seem to think they are worth much :) D7k1

Supremely comfortable. Having said that, you own a 70D. Why not just buy an 80D, & save yourself all the expense & drama of replacing all your ancillaries? Batteries, Flash, lenses etc etc etc. If you're not desperate, the 90D/7D2 replacement is imminent, and will also save you time & cash in a switchover. cluber77

I liked the 70D at the time I bought it but canon for me way behind Panasonic in terms of technology, still no 4K in all models, big size of the budy, not a lot of features, so...I think I will go for G9...it’s the best I can get from stills and video in one camera.

Joined Feb 29, 2012 Messages 1,010 For working, the larger battery of the G9 will make a big difference. Especially coming from a Canon dslr with an all day battery. Even with my G9 I carry at least one spare, and if I’m shooting all day, then 3 or 4. My G7 and G85 require double that for the same workload. cdmicha

Joined Dec 28, 2012 Messages 212 Location Arkansas Real Name Chris I switched from a canon setup 4 years ago (70D and 6D) to an all M43 system, and I haven't looked back. I've not used the G95, but as an owner of the G9 since January of last year, I can say that it's been a workhorse for me. Whatever I throw at it, it has handled well. I've printed photos up to 20x24 (I think that's in between A1 and A2), and regularly print at 16x20 (in between A2 and A3). Video quality is excellent, and while there is a 10 min limit on 4k 60p, I've heard there's a workaround floating around the internets, I just haven't tried it yet... Regarding flash, I'm 95% off camera with all my lighting, and the only time I've got it on camera is to bounce, so not having a built in flash isn't really an issue for me. Grab a Godox Xpro and one of their compatible flashes, either the smaller 350 or larger 685 and you are all set. Size wise, it's comparible to the 70D, but ergonomically I think it's much better. All in all, it's a great camera that I easily recommend, if the size and price aren't an issue for you. cluber77

The G9 has to be the best deal in photography right now. $1200.00 for a spectacular camera. I shoot the Oly Em1 Mkii which is similar but not as good with video. The IBIS is stellar on both. I have a Nikon D810, Canon 80D and the Olympus EM1 Mkii. All things considered the little M43 just runs rings around the other two. grcolts

I just purchase one a few weeks ago and so far am glad I did. I picked it up with the kit lens and am a happy camper. GR cdmicha

According to the internets, the 70D is rated at 100,000 actuations, if you're looking for a reason to upgrade now. Of course ratings don't really tell you anything about how many shots your camera can handle, so take that with a grain of salt. I'd say a better reason to upgrade quickly is if you find a good deal on one, or an ideal time to trade in/trade up.
