Avatar of RPPreacherRPPreacher🇺🇸RASDIAL does not connect VPN I have a VPN connection in Microsoft Windows XP called VPN.  It is set to store a username and password.  When I double clicks the VPN connection in Network Connections, it connects. When I attempt to use RASDIAL from the command line, I get Verifying username and password... Remote Access error 691 - Access was denied because the username and/or password  was invalid on the domain. For more help on this error:         Type 'hh netcfg.chm'         In help, click Troubleshooting, then Error Messages, then 691 I thought maybe the RASDIAL could not pick up the stored username and password, so I tried RASDIAL VPN USERNAME PASSWORD (assuming my username is USERNAME and my password is PASSWORD) Same error. Ideas?

Avatar of koudrykoudry🇬🇧 I am not familiar with the XP VPN but the following URL provides some info that you may find useful. http://www.aeonity.com/frost/howto-windows-xp-vpn-into-remote-location Unfortunately, I cannot test the instructions in the article as I don't have an XP machine. I am going to check for the Vista version and see how does work. Good luck. Koudry Avatar of RPPreacherRPPreacher🇺🇸

This does not apply to this question at all. I am referring to a specific issue with RASDIAL command line function, not anything mentioned in the link. Avatar of koudrykoudry🇬🇧 OK, have you tried the help command from the DOS prompt? This gives the format of the command as follows: C:\>rasdial/? USAGE:         rasdial entryname [username [password|*]] [/DOMAIN:domain]                 [/PHONE:phonenumber] [/CALLBACK:callbacknumber]                 [/PHONEBOOK:phonebookfile] [/PREFIXSUFFIX]         rasdial [entryname] /DISCONNECT         rasdial Also please take a look at the following articles: DUN::How to stop password blanking on 691 error? @ http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1466504.php   RASDIAL.exe problems @ http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Windows_Networking/NT/Q_20785946.html I have also found the following error info from the "RasDial Pro User's Manual" @ http://www.muconsulting.com/rasdialpro/usersmanual/rasdialpro.html: "Common Errors 5 (Access is denied) This error can occur by one of two conditions.ý If the user name and password were not specified on the command line, then they must be saved with the dial-up networking icon. If the user name and password were specified on the command line, then either the account has been disabled by the remote dial-up server or the user name, password, or domain were misspelled.ý If the user name and/or password contain a space or other non-alphanumeric characters, enclose them in double quotes. 623 (Cannot find the phone book entry) This error occurs when the entry name specified on the command line does not exist in the dial-up networking folder.ý If the entry contains a space or other non-alphanumeric characters, enclose the entry name in double quotes. 691 (Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain) See notes for error 5.  " Hope that helps. I had setup this to auto connect a VPN tunnel from powershell command line.  Windows 10 won't read the username / password no matter what you try. I changed the VPN to use EAP with the "Windows Username"  I then just needed the VPN Username to Match the same username I was logged in as. The VPN no longer needs a username and password - thus the rasdial.exe MYVPN will now work again. Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
