The case back says W10, which I believe is a totally different model, different case etc. The watch also came not ticking, though there was a battery inside it.
Has anyone had an experience like that, and have any insights to share? I'd also like to find out if this CWC is authentic. Much appreciated, thanks! #1 · Aug 14, 2015 Hi Everyone, I ordered a CWC G10 from Anchor Supplies about a month ago. It's supposed to be an issued Marines G10. I received the watch today and was pretty happy. But when I removed the Nato strap to have a look at the case back, I noticed something was off.

View attachment 4996193 View attachment 4996209 Click to expand...Aah, I see. It seems the newer G10s have a different caseback from the older ones I've seen. Wow! Yours looks to be in impeccable condition, nice! Anchor Supplies is from the UK, and sells military surplus items. I was fortunate enough to get a CWC from them. 0 Reply #4 · Aug 14, 2015 CWC G10 ISSUE WATCH - Cabot Watch Company If yours is DOA, you can still get the new version. #5 · Aug 14, 2015 (Edited) On my phone on the bus so most of this is from memory which I can't fact check... I have two 'g10's: a cwc model similar to OP's but with a different case back as it was a 1989 issue, and a thicker cased Precista from '82. I don't know what CWC calls their model, but what you refer to as g10 or w10 actually mean two different things. G10 is what soldiers colloquially call the watches (and the NATO straps they were supplied on). This is because the form used to request the watch (and I think any equipment) is a G10 form. W10 on your watch means that it was issued to the British army. There are different codes for different branches of the armed forces: my Precista is marked w10 but my cwc is marked 0552 which means it was issued in the navy. I also have a vintage smiths 'w10', again stamped with this mark on the back and colloquially referred to as a Smiths W10. OP's CWC is marked with a T which means it uses tritium to glow (think the half life is 14 years so yours may still be glowing - mine isn't). I think your watch might have been from the last batch that used tritium. Mannal's watch is marked with an L, referencing the 'superluminova' on the dial. Shame that your watch isn't functioning, but it should be possible to source a replacement movement or simply return it and buy a replacement watch. Other military watches to look out for are CWC mechanical watches and Hamilton mechanical watches (both on my wish list). Here's some pics of mine (and my friend's) that I have on my phone:
#6 · Aug 15, 2015 (Edited) Thanks for the clarification J_D0H. What a collection you have! Unfortunately, despite having the battery replaced, the watch still doesn't work properly. The second hand just ticks at the 2 o'clock position and doesn't advance. I'm in the process of contacting Anchor Supplies about the issue. Any advice about the problem? Link to the video: #7 · Aug 15, 2015 I'm afraid my knowledge ends at collecting and wearing them! Can't help with the innards! Hopefully you get it sorted with Anchor Supplies. Keep us posted
Looking good! Upon further inspection, I found that the caseback was slightly offset. Not only does it make my OCD senses tingle, but it also makes battery swaps that much of a pain (I tried to remove the battery, cos I realised the hatch wouldn't be directly above the battery port). Ah well, I'll have to live with it. That's what you get for spending money on vintage/used items I guess. (How do you even get the caseback of those things?) Anyway, thanks for reading! Do feel free to chip in and comment! #9 · Oct 10, 2015 (Edited) Hi thefruitbar. Good to hear from you - I've been checking this thread periodically so see how you were getting on! That's great that you have a working cwc now, but a shame about the caseback. I think the casebacks can be pried off like normal casebacks, but I've heard they can be a pain to put back on. You could try a local watch repairer? Also, since posting last I have bought a Hamilton W10 (I think I mentioned it was on my wish list...). So here it is, since this thread gives me a chance to show it off!
#10 · Oct 11, 2015 Thanks J_D0H! I think I'll leave the caseback the way it is for the time being, after all, I've been waiting for it to come for a loong time. Wow, that's a great catch you have there! In pristine condition as well! If there's a thread some where on this forum with more pictures and discussions of these watches, yours included of course, do keep me updated! #11 · Aug 23, 2017 W10: Army 0552: Royal Navy 0555: Royal Marines 6B or 6BB: RAF Insert Quotes Post Reply - ?
