Souryellows Asked: What's The Difference Between Tw: And Cw
elliott, he/him, psychoanalysis enjoyer. 30shomeaskarchiveminetheme20Sep« souryellows asked: What’s the difference between tw: and cw: ?tw stands for trigger warning, and cw stands for content warning.
tw is more common I think, but I’ve started using cw which is gaining prominence due to concerns that warning for triggers instead of content establishes a false hierarchy wherein some triggers are considered more authentic and worthy of concern than others; people are more likely to warn for common triggers and also reluctant to assign a tw to something that doesn’t fit their notions of what constitutes a trigger. Content warnings are simpler and don’t place a value judgment on anything, furthermore sometimes it’s helpful to warn people for content that might not trigger them, but could be upsetting or infuriating in other ways.
Related note on tagging—apart from noting warnings on the title of a post, putting a photo behind a read-more, etc, people like to tag cw/tw for those who use tumblr savior.
The problem with this is that there are so many different variations, people who use savior need to add all of them and then the program takes much longer to load and it’s less effective at blocking content.
Instead of tagging posts like this (where the word ‘trigger’ replaces potentially triggering or upsetting content):
- cw: trigger
- tw: trigger
- cw trigger
- tw trigger
just write
- trigger-
with a hyphen at the end.
This works by taking advantage of tumblr’s tagging system being unable to read hyphens, so anything with a hyphen at the end will not show up in tracked tags AND tumblr savior will catch the word if it’s on your blacklist.
If you don’t/can’t tag, you can also just write the word itself you’d like to warn for in the post somewhere; tumblr savior will catch that too.
