) until you get TDC on #1. I pull the #1 plug and cover the plug hole with my thumb and as I turn the motor over by hand compression escapes out around my thumb. Your timming mark(s) on the pulley should confirm you are at or near #1 TDC. Adjust the distributor until the rotor lines up with the #1 tower on the cap. It should be close enough to fire the motor and get a timming light reading for a perfect setting.
