Goes to show, sometimes when people ask ‘which one should I get’ the answer can be ‘ ’both are good’

I believe that we are now in to the area in chainsaw development where they are designed to do around 5 years and that is it. The saws that used to last 20 years have come and gone. The old 254XP, 346

Sigh, there’s always one hey @slasherscot
both identical length bars, both identical new chains, the husqvarna side was 5mm bigger.
that video sums up them tbh, naff all in it!
We’ll be taking them out in the forest in the new year to do some felling.
@Treespotter the weight difference is considerable, the husqvarna feels way heavier but both are nicely balanced

Interesting that there is such a noticeable weight difference in them. I have no allegiance to any of the top manufacturers I simply buy what I consider to be the best tool for the job and as such I have a mixed fleet of Stihl, husky and echo. One disappointment with the latest stihl products has been a noticeable and unwanted change to flimsy plastics. The latest HL92 trimmer being a good example. I wonder if this runs deeper into the stihl internals and will result in them not lasting as long as previous models. I'm all for the kit being lighter but not at the expense of its longevity. Hopefully the 462 will be as robust as its predecessor.

The old 254XP, 346XP, 357XP, 372XP, 395XP, MS260, MS200, MS440, MS460, MS660 are the last of the long lasting saws and are replaced by faster, smoother, lighter but more fragile saws.
Just the way it is I am afraid to say!

Not seen either in the flesh yet but saw a photo of them side by side and the Husky looked considerably slimmer . Is this the case ?

The old built to last saws presumably had more tolerance for modifications ?
