One of the biggest reasons Chevy says it made the C8 Corvette mid-engine was for better rear grip, resulting in quicker acceleration times. It worked—the company says the car can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, a time we were able to match in our official testing. But it turns out it can get to 60 even quicker, given the right situation.

Mike Davenport—Chevy Dude on YouTube—recently took his new C8 Corvette to a private, flat stretch of road to test out the launch control system. Towards the end of the video above, he was able to squeeze out a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds, according to the car's onboard timer—one tenth quicker than the factory claims. Granted, Davenport likely had perfect weather and grip levels to play with, resulting in an optimal launch with minimal tire spin and maximum power. Still, to see a stock Corvette get to 60 mph so quickly is impressive, no matter the situation.

The performance is due mostly in part to the car's optional Z51 performance package. Though top speed is reduced due to drag, you get Michelin Pilot 4S summer tires, a performance exhaust, and a trick electronic limited-slip differential. All of those make the car quicker off the line, so if obscenely low 0-60 times are your goal, make sure to check off that option box at the dealer.
