∙ 16y agoUpdated: 6/14/2024Starting with NaCl, Sodium and Chlorine have a large difference in electronegativity, which means in the polarity of water will be able to break the polar NaCl bond. In ethanol, C2H6O, there is enough difference in electronegativity between the Carbon and Oxygen for the polarity of the water molecule to break this bond. In CaCO3, it is the Carbon and Oxygen bonds again the break. This is far less soluble than the other two molecules, but the same reason still applies.
For recrystallisation, try something non-polar to wash your crystals, like hexane. If you were wanting to recrystalise the calcium carbonate, ice-cool distilled water would be fine and wouldn't drastically decrease your % yeild.

Recrystallization is a process in which rocks actually change. It is whereby the crystals of one mineral slowly convert to few but larger crystals of the same mineral with out melting the rock. It is them followed the the process of neomorphism then metasomatism.2.Crystallization is the (natural or artificial) process of formation of solid crystals from a homogeneous solution or melt, or more rarely directly from a gas. This process is often used as a technique to separate a solute from a liquid solution, bringing it into a pure crystalline phase.
What concentration of potassium permanganate is suitable for purifying drinking water?
Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is poisonous in high concentrations, and is not typically used for disinfecting drinking water. It is used in low concentrations for iron and manganese oxidation as well as total organic carbon (TOC) reduction.High concentrations of KMnO4 result in pink colored water.
Why was evaporation used to determine the mass percentage of potassium chloride rather than filtration or recrystallization?
Evaporation was used to determine the mass percentage of potassium chloride because it involves simply evaporating the solvent to leave behind the solid salt, allowing for easy separation and calculation of the mass. Filtration might not be suitable as it can lead to loss of product, and recrystallization is not necessary if the goal is only to determine the mass percentage.
Why is water a poor solvent for the recrystallisation of iodine?
Water is a poor solvent for the recrystallization of iodine because iodine is only slightly soluble in water. As a nonpolar solvent, water cannot effectively dissolve the polar iodine molecules, resulting in low solubility and poor recrystallization efficiency. Other solvents, such as ethanol or acetone, are more suitable for recrystallizing iodine due to their ability to dissolve iodine more effectively.
Why should the recrystallization solvent have a fairly low boiling point?
the more solvent you use the more of the poorly soluable compound (wich you are trying to crystallise) will be lost when you cool down your solvent. because the soluability at the lower temperature is still not 0 g/l.
