Có thể cạo đi lớp rêu mỏng mọc ở bên cạnh bồn hoa hoặc trên viên gạch chỗ ẩm, nghiền nhỏ, cho thêm nước để thành hồ dính, dùng bút lông hoặc bàn chải xoa lên bề mặt đá đã hút đủ nước, sau đó đặt đá vào chỗ đó ẩm mát. Nếu trộn thêm ít nước khoai tây vào thì rêu sẽ phát triển càng nhanh.Rêu mọc quá dày làm che lấp đi hoa văn của đá, sẽ hạ thấp giá trị thưởng thức của chậu kiểng, nên phải thường xuyên dùng dao cạo rửa rêu ở chỗ không đáng có, thưa dầy kết hợp.
