New TCL 4K TVs

The new C815 (or C81) and C715 (or C71) are designed to be value-for-money TVs that can compete with similar offerings from major brands like LG and Samsung. TCL said that it is seeing strong in Europe, with TV unit sales up 35% in 2019. As mid-range models, C815 and C715 lack the advanced picture systems found in the high-end X10 and X915 models. C815 has an edge LED LCD panel whereas C715 has a slim direct LED LCD panel. The TVs do not have local dimming capabilities. They will be available in sizes ranges from 50 to 75 inches. TCL instead highlighted Google's Android TV operating system as a key feature and strength. Android TV gets regular although delayed updates, and later this year TCL will start rolling out Android 10 to its TVs. Rumors say that the next version of Android TV (Android 11) will include support for Stadia, Google's game streaming service, but TCL refrained from commenting on matter. It did say, however, that its 2020 generation of TVs will have input lag as low as 8ms.

TCL C815

The company argued that Android TVs are well-positioned to ride the wave of new streaming services that is sweeping through Europe. TCL said that, for example, all of its Android TVs dating back to 2016 are compatible with Disney+. Android TVs also come with built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant. Together with Samsung and Hisense, TCL is a member of the QLED alliance, which permits it to use the "QLED" branding for LCD TVs with quantum dots, like C815 and C715. HDR compatibility, including Dolby Vision support, is also listed in the specifications but for the HDR picture experience you should turn your attention to LCD TVs with local dimming capabilities (like TCL's own X10) or preferably self-emitting displays like OLED. C815 has a maximum brightness of 400 nits. TCL's C815 and C715 will be available in Europe in the coming weeks starting at 700 Euro for a 50-inch model.
