Overview

From espresso to pour-over coffee preparation, the EG-1 is Weber Workshops's 80mm premier flat burr grinder for specialty coffee, now upgraded to the Mk.3 edition.

The EG-1 Mk.3 ships with your option of two burr sets, both magnetically mounted. For everything from pour-over to espresso, we recommend the CORE burr set. For pour-over & filter only brewing, we highly recommend the ULTRA burr set for the highest clarity. If you purchase a second set of burrs at the same time as the grinder, you'll receive an automatic discount in the cart ($100 off on CORE, $150 off on ULTRA).

• (Optional) - Core or ULTRA (SSP) burrs may be added for an additional $150 or $200, respectively, when purchased with grinder. Discount applies automatically at checkout.
• We grind coffee with the EG1 during the final steps of our QC process. While we do clean up afterwards-you may still find a small amount of residual coffee remnants in the machine.

Electrical Compatibility

The EG-1, as with all of our electrical products, is designed to work worldwide without a transformer. 90-240v, 50-60Hz, we have you covered. CE Certified.

Our products all utilize power cables with C13 style connectors (same as a computer), so they can be localized with just a cable. Custom lengths are readily availability in most locales. Your grinder will ship with the correct cable for your region no be it US, AU, EU, MENA or UK . If we don't have any stock of cables for your locale, your grinder may ship with a US-style C13 cable.

Flat Burr vs Conical

The EG-1 is our premier flat burr disc grinder. There is an incredible amount of information on the web surrounding the question "which is better -- flat or conical?". In short, there is no concrete answer, as this comes down to personal preference. A couple of things that can be said about each are:

Conical Burrs

It is our belief that conical burrs are great for their all-around flexibility in making good coffee. Think of them like a tennis racket with an enormous sweet spot that always feels just about right, but never channels 100% of the swing's power. They will enable you to make amazing coffee with margin for error, but might not pull out every single note of a very complex coffee. They work great on all styles of coffee, from espresso to pour-over.

Flat (or disc) Burrs

These are for when you want to dial in with the precision of a scalpel to get every single origin note possible from your coffee. Our CORE burrs do this with precision and clarity, both for espresso and filter coffee. Our ULTRA burrs reduce fines to the point they are virtually unusable for traditional espresso, but outstanding as a dedicated option for filter coffee. See more about our burr sets here.

EG-1 was the first grinder in the industry to offer variable RPM back in 2015, and it has gotten smarter and better over the years. A PID controller senses the hardness of your beans and throttles the electrons accordingly to best hit your target RPM in real time.

Simple, straightforward cleaning

The cleaning process for the EG-1 is easy. The grind chamber can be opened, thoroughly cleaned, and resealed in about 30 seconds. The top and bottom funnel caps form a clam shell grind chamber and are secured together using sets of strong rare earth (Neodymium) magnets. This is the easiest and cleanest grinder on earth, and possibly beyond.

New to the v3, a Purge button in the center of the RPM dial has two functions. From a stop, it spins the burrs in reverse before briefly spinning them at MAX. This can dislodge foreign objects or unroasted beans that may have jammed the grinder, and purge the last granules of leftover coffee. Pushing the button while grinding gives a temporary MAX burst.

The EG-1 ships standard with Weber Workshops's CORE magnetically mounted burr set, designed to be used for everything from filter coffee to espresso. They are magnetically mounted, and do not have the screw holes commonly seen on disc burr setups which can be a collection point for old coffee .

Maintenance & Cleaning

The EG-1 cleaning process is as easy as it comes. The grind chamber can be opened, thoroughly cleaned, and resealed in a matter of seconds. The top and bottom funnel caps form a clam shell grind chamber and are secured using sets of strong rare earth (Neodymium) magnets. The caps easily snap off the front of the unit, providing the barista complete and unobstructed access to the burr set and wiper system. The best part is that this deep cleaning doesn't affect grind size adjustment or burr alignment.

The upper dosing dish has also been designed to be easily removed for cleaning. Held in place by a pair of Neodymium magnets and a set of stainless steel pins, the dish can be quickly removed from the grinder for a quick wipe down.

At the end of the shift, in the middle, or even when changing the beans, it's fast and easy to clear the grinder of any lingering residue. Ease of cleaning offers more options for using multiples coffees in high volume environments or in other settings such as cupping rooms or roasting labs.

Burr Alignment

A common issue with commercial grinders is the inability to check or adjust burr alignment. In the majority of machines, burrs are buried deep inside the grinder which makes a visual or mechanical inspection impossible. Manufacturers generally don't offer adjustment mechanisms to calibrate a burr set after initial assembly. This makes it very difficult for users to align their grinders.

We designed the EG-1 to make it simple to both verify and adjust burr alignment. The burr set is fully accessible in less than 20 seconds without the need for any tools. Ease of access to the burrs facilitates both regular maintenance and daily cleaning. If necessary, adjustments to alignment can be made with a 4mm metric hex key in a matter of moments without having to disassemble the grinder.

Burr Replacement

We reinvented the burr mount to make this easier to do than with any other commercial coffee grinder. With a 4mm hex tool and a spare 5 minutes, you can swap and perfectly align your EG-1 burrs.
