The Meaning Of My Name. - Nguyễn Khánh Linh

Everybody was born with their own name. Name is a distinct thing which helps people to

recognize who you are. Each name has a story behind it. It is an explanation for your name, for why your family gave you the name that you currently have. For me, my name was born for a very simple reason. In 1997, Vietnam had a movie named “The Soong Sisters” on TV. This film became really popular at that time since it tells a story about three sisters – Soong Ai-ling (Tong Ai Linh), Soong Ching-ling (Tong Khanh Linh), and Soong Mei-ling (Tong My Linh) who took part in making important changes in modern Chinese history. The Soong Sisters became a boom that everyone from children to elders knew about it, and my family was not an exception. Especially my father who really admired the middle sister, Soong Ching-ling (Tong Khanh Linh). Soong Ching-ling can be seen as a talented integrity woman; moreover, Chinese people also saw her as “The mother of modern China.” The Soong Sisters still made a big influence in the year I was born in 1998. As I heard from my parents that in the month I was born, there were six other girls staying in the same room with me, and the funny thing is that the names of every girl were named after the three sisters, just different with the last name while the first and middle name of three sisters were the same. Because the movie still has had a big impact on everyone at that time, so obviously, my father who liked Soong Ching-ling named me the same name as her plus my father’s last name: Nguyen Khanh Linh. It was not only because he liked Soong Ching-ling so he decided to give me that name, but also he hoped that in the future, I can be as talented and clever as her.
