A. Objectives:

1. Aim: Students listen to the advantages of reading books and the disadvantages of over reading.

2. Knowledge: By end of the lesson Ss will be able to:

- Develop their skill of listening for specific information.

- Use the acquitted language and knowledge to talk about hobbies.

- Know the words related about the hobbies and complete the exercises, task 1 and task 2.

3. Skill-based: listen.

B. Teaching aids:

Textbook, board , handouts, cassette

C. Teaching method:

- Integrated, mainly, communicative

Aim: Students listen to the advantages of reading books and the disadvantages of over reading. 2. Knowledge: By end of the lesson Ss will be able to: - Develop their skill of listening for specific information. - Use the acquitted language and knowledge to talk about hobbies. - Know the words related about the hobbies and complete the exercises, task 1 and task 2. 3. Procedure: Teacher’s activities Student’s activities Warm up(7m) Make as many sentences as possible with the words provided. Stamps - books - swimming - music. II. New lesson. 1. Pre-listening (8m) Brainstorming - Get Ss to work in pairs to brainstorm all the benefits of reading books in 3 minutes. - After 3 minutes T calls on the pairs with the biggest number of benefits to give the answers. - Ask the other pairs to add more ideas. Vocabulary - Ask Ss open their books,page 150 Listen and repeat: magazines (n): Tạp chí continually (adv):liên tục, không ngớt otherwise (adv):mặt khác, nếu không thì gigantic (adj): khổng lồ profitably (adv): cú lợi available (adj):sẵn có để dùng,có thể kiếm được bygone(adj)= past: quá khứ ignorantly(adj)= stupid: ngu dốt - Listen to radio. - Show the meaning of the words. - Read the words. - T call some Ss to read the words. 2. While -listening: Task1(12m): Listen to a student’s talk about his hobby and decide whether the statements are true or false. - Ask Ss to reads the statements carefully and guess the answers - Play the tape twice for Ss to check their answers. - Check Ss’ answers by calling on some Ss and ask Ss to explain their answers. -Write the answers on the board. Task 2(9m): Listen again and write the gap - filling words. - Ask Ss to read through the passage. - Play the tape again for Ss to do the task. - Get Ss to work in pairs and campare their answers. - Call some Ss to give the answer and elicits feedback from other Ss. 3. Post-listening(7m) - Get Ss to work in groups 3 or 4 to talk about the disadvantages of over reading. - Go around checking and offering help. - Call on the group to person their ideas and other groups to add some more ideas. - Give the feedback. III. Consolidation (1m). Summaries Ss’ hobby, the advantages of reading books and the disadvantages of over reading. IV. Homework (1m). - Redo task 1 and task 2 into notebook - Prepare new lesson 4: Writing. Group work: To make sentences I like collecting stamps/I have a lot of stamps. I like reading books/I read any kind of books. We go swimming everyday/Do you like swimming? I like listening to music. Pair work: Books are help to widen our knowledge. Books give us valuable experience Books are good sources of information Books make our life better Books help us relax - Read these word after the T. - Stand up and read loudly in front of the class. - Remember the word’s meaning. -Listen to the tape twice. - Give the answer Key: 1. T 2. F(his parents soon got fed up with having to read to him continually). 3. F(he started with simple ABC books). 4. F(now he read just about anything that is a available). 5. T 6. T 7. T 8. T - Individual work, group work and whole class Key: 1. wonderful. 2. disease. 3. jungle. 4. certainly. 5. ignorantly. - Work in pairs and campare to answers. - Give the answers and comments. Group work: Some disadvantages of over reading: -Tired: make felling tired -Waste time -Be harmful for eyes -Neglect studying -Get confused in life Whole class: - Listen and remember. -Listen and take note.
