Warm up : Brainstorming: - What sources of energy do you know? oil coal wind Sources of energy natural nuclear 1. What is our major source of energy? 2. Is this major source limited? Why? Lead in: To know the answers to the questions, we’ll study UNIT 11: SOURCES OF ENERGY II. Pre – reading : 1. Pre – teaching vocabulary: - (to) reléase thải ra, phóng ra - fóssil fuel (n) nguyên liệu hóa thạch - exháusted (adj) cạn kiệt (to) exháust làm cạn kiệt exháustion (n) - geothérmal (adj) thuộc nhiệt địa geothérmal heat (n) hơi nóng nhiệt địa - poténtial (adj) tiềm năng potentiálity (n) tiềm lực - ínfinite # fínite (adj) vô tận, không giới hạn * Checking : Rub Out & Remember 2. Pre – Questions: What source of energy does each picture above refer to? What do you need energy for? 3. Task 1 : Fill in the blank Answer key: released alternative energy limited exhausted III. While – reading : 1. Task 2: Scan the passage and write down the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative source of energy. Feedback: Sources of energy Advantages Disadvantages Nuclear power It’s unlimited It can be very dangerous. Geothermal It’s available It’s only possible in few places Solar energy It’s not only plentiful and infinite but also clean and safe It’s only possible during the day time. Wind power It’s clean and unlimited There’s no wind energy when there is no wind. Water power It’s clean and unlimited. It’s expensive. 2. Task 3 : Questions and Answer: Answer Key: Our major source of energy comes from fossil fuels. Five sources of energy are mentioned in the text. I think solar energy is the most potential. IV. Post – reading : (for good-students) Complete the summary of the reading passage by filling each blank with a word given in the box.
