The H2 Racing Truck aims to test French company Gaussin’s hydrogen tech to the limit…

1 / 2

Here’s some rather exciting news – this mega looking racing truck is powered by hydrogen, was designed by Pininfarina and will take on the Dakar Rally in January 2022. Those are three things we can certainly get on board with.
Officially this is called the H2 Racing Truck and it’s the product of French transport company Gaussin, which is aiming to use the Dakar to demonstrate how tough its new hydrogen-electric skateboard is. Said skateboard will then go on to underpin a range of road-going trucks and lorries from 2022 onwards, each with a body designed by Pininfarina. Check out the concepts below…

You’re here for the stats on the H2 Racing Truck though, right? Well, it’s the most powerful hydrogen truck in the world, says Gaussin. There are two electric motors with around 400bhp each, as well as 82kWh of battery and space for 80kg of hydrogen. Top speed is limited to 87mph as per Dakar rules and it’ll manage around 155 miles on a single charge/tank at race pace. Refuelling will take around 20 minutes each time.
The best bit though? The H2 Racing Truck is apparently registered for road use. Fancy one for the commute?
