Diesel Engines

N47 – 4 cylinder diesel engine

The most common is the N47 – 4 cylinder diesel engine, fitted to most small engine BMWs from 2007 to 2014. The N57 is the 6 cylinder version which also has the same chain setup. The chains on these engines are fitted to the rear of the engine, meaning the transmission has to be removed to access the chain gear. Which in turn making the labour of the replacement slightly higher than vehicles with the chain fitted to the front of the engine. With manual vehicles, we replace the clutch kit & dual mass flywheel whilst removed, if no proof of recent replacement within the last 3 years or 30,000 miles. With Automatic vehicles, we replace the fluid & filter pan whilst the transmission is removed.

All repairs are using Genuine BMW/ Mini Timing Chains & associated parts that come with a 24 month or 24,000 miles Warranty.

BMW & Mini 4×4 xDrive models are an extra £300 of the above prices to remove the extra transfer case & front differential as part of the repair. Including fluids replacement.

B47 – 4 cylinder diesel engine

Following from the N47 engine, in 2015 BMW released the updated version called the B47. A lot of parts of the engine are very different and improved from the N47. However the chains used are the same version as the N47. Therefore as the mileages are increasing on these models now. We are seeing the same stretching and failures as the N47. Therefore it is also recommended to replace the timing chains on your B47 engine fitted to your BMW. With manual vehicles, we replace the clutch kit & dual mass flywheel whilst removed, if no proof of recent replacement within the last 3 years or 30,000 miles. With Automatic vehicles, we replace the fluid & filter pan whilst the transmission is removed.

Please note, this price is for the BMW B47 – Heck – longitudinal rear wheel drive engine version. If you have a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer or Mini with this engine fitted which is transversely mounted, front wheel drive. Please contact us for exact pricing.

We are also seeing an increase in low engine oil pressure faults and worn con-rod bearing shells causing damage to the crankshaft. Therefore with all the N57 timing chain replacements, we now carry out replacement of the con-rod bearing shells along with cleaning of the sump whilst removed.
