The natural beauty of the Bay lay hidden today under a very common fog. As I had already seen the similar karst landscape in China a couple of years before, I certainly said that I was blown away by the beauty of Ha Long Bay. We went onto one of the islands to visit the Surprising Cave - an indeed surprisingly big and beautiful cave with three hollow chambers. We saw some monkeys here too, just outside the cave exit.

Part of the tour was half an hour of kayaking - enough to paddle a full circle around the main area. The views from the kayak I found much more impressive than from the larger boat: you're so tiny then and the peaks rise sharply in front of you. I had a better look at the water too, and cannot say that I saw pollution by plastic or other junk floating around. There is a thin layer of oil on the water in some parts though.

And then it's time to get back in the bus to Ha Noi, another 3.5 hours. The tour was carried out well with good seafood for lunch and I had a satisfying day.

Another thing that I am really impressed is the preservation of thẹ whole town which is very amazing and very authentic, which is a thing that cannot be found in Melaka, Singapore or Macao. The Japanese Bridge is maybe the only sight that I found very interesting for its stories that the Japanese built this bridge in order to calm evil serpent spirit “Namazu” that caused earthquake in very faraway Japan since they believe Hoi An is located on the back of the serpent. I strangely found that there are still many nice temples, especially the one dedicate to Confucius which has more unique and interesting Vietnamese elements more than the preserved ones in the core zone.

I also noted that Hoi An is not only popular with European tourists but also Korean, Japanese, Australian and New Zealander. After sunset, the whole town waterfront becomes a night market with many local foods. And at that time Hoi An is very charming with hundreds of paper and silk lanterns. Hoi An at night seems to be a very popular place for pre-wedding photo shooting, as I saw many Vietnamese couples in their traditional dresses with their photographer teams everywhere especially around the Japanese Bridge, so a great place to see local contemporary wedding cultures. All in all, I really enjoyed my time in Hoi An for its lovely atmosphere and nice townscape.

Cây cầu Nhật Bản có lẽ là cảnh tượng duy nhất mà tôi thấy rất thú vị về những câu chuyện mà người Nhật xây dựng cây cầu này để làm dịu tinh thần rắn ác “Namazu” gây ra trận động đất ở Nhật Bản từ xa vì họ tin rằng Hội An nằm ở phần lưng của con rắn. Một cách kỳ lạ là tôi thấy rằng vẫn còn nhiều ngôi đền đẹp, đặc biệt là đền thờ Khổng Tử mang nhiều yếu tố độc đáo và thú vị của Việt Nam hơn so với những ngôi đền được bảo tồn ở vùng trung tâm.

Tôi cũng lưu ý rằng Hội An không chỉ phổ biến với khách du lịch châu Âu mà còn với cả du khách Hàn Quốc, Nhật Bản, Úc và New Zealand. Sau khi mặt trời lặn, toàn bộ phố cổ ven sông trở thành khu chợ đêm có rất nhiều món ăn địa phương. Và vào thời điểm đó, Hội An rất quyến rũ nhờ hàng trăm chiếc đèn lồng làm bằng giấy và lụa. Hội An vào buổi tối có vẻ là một nơi rất phổ biến để chụp ảnh cưới, vì tôi thấy nhiều cặp vợ chồng người Việt mặc trang phục truyền thống cùng các nhóm thợ ảnh ở khắp nơi trên cầu Nhật Bản, đây cũng là một nơi tuyệt vời để khám phá và cảm nhận những nét văn hóa đám cưới đương đại tại địa phương. Tóm lại, tôi thực sự đã tận hưởng khoảng thời gian ở Hội An nhờ bầu không khí đáng yêu và cảnh quan tuyệt đẹp của phố cổ.

The Amazon rainforest is home to more than a third of all the world's species of plants, birds and animals. Twenty per cent of all the birds in the world live in the rainforest. Scientists predict that by 2030, the rainforest will have become smaller by 40%. It's possible that by the end of the 21st century, the rainforest will have completely disappeared. With deforestation, thousands of the animals, birds, fish and plants that live in the Amazon rainforest lose their home, their natural habitat. Some of them move to other areas, but most of them die. Many species have already become extinct, and many more will if deforestation continues. That will change the balance of life in the rainforest and could cause enormous problems to the region's ecosystem.

There's another problem too. Trees and plants are a vital source of oxygen. If we cut them down, we lose that oxygen. But it's worse than just that. With deforestation, the trees and plants are burnt. This sends gases into the Earth's atmosphere, which stops some of the Earth's heat escaping. That then leads to the temperature here on the ground going up. This increase in the world's temperature is called 'global warming', and most scientists believe it's a very serious issue. If they stopped deforestation, it might help prevent global warming

Centuries ago, man discovered that removing moisture from food helped to preserve it, and that the easiest way to do this was to expose the food to sun and wind. Nowadays most foods are dried mechanically; the conventional method of such dehydration is to put food in chambers through which hot air is blown at temperatures of about 110°C at entry to about 45°C at exit. This is the usual method for drying such things as vegetables, minced meat, and fish.

Liquids such as milk, coffee, tea, soups and eggs may be dried by pouring them over a heated horizontal steel cylinder or by spraying them into a chamber through which a current of hot air passes. In the first case, the dried material is scraped off the roller as a thin film which is then broken up into small, though still relatively coarse flakes. In the second process it falls to the bottom of the chamber as a fine powder. Where recognizable pieces of meat and vegetables are required, as in soup, the ingredients are dried separately and then mixed.

Dried foods take up less room and weigh less than the same food packed in cans or frozen, and they do not need to be stored in special conditions. For these reasons they are invaluable to climbers, explorers and soldiers in battle, who have little storage space.
