Margaret Alva HYDERABAD: After backing joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha for Presidential polls, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is yet to make up its mind on doing the same in the Vice-Presidential elections. Congress leader Margaret Alva has been fielded by the opposition against the NDA’s nominee former West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. The election for the VP post is on August 6.‘The TRS has not taken any decision on supporting opposition candidate Margaret Alva. KCR will soon take a decision after consulting senior leaders,” former MP and senior leader B Vinod Kumar told TOI. Sources in the TRS said the party supported Yashwant Sinha in the Presidential election and even gave a grand reception in Hyderabad as NCP chief Sharad Pawar had called up KCR while selecting the candidate and also for seeking support. However, when it came to the VP polls, TRS sources said that KCR did not get any call from Pawar or any Congress leader on Alva’s candidature. “The difference between Sinha and Alva is that the former is not a Congress leader, but the latter is. If we support a Congress leader, it would send a wrong signal to the party cadre and the BJP would use it to target TRS,” a senior party leader said.The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has already announced that it would abstain, claiming that Alva’s name was announced without any consultation.
