Thông tin cơ bản
Võ Sỹ Nam hiện là Giám đốc Trung tâm Tin Y Sinh, Viện Nghiên cứu Dữ liệu lớn Vingroup, Giám đốc Khoa học & Công nghệ kiêm đồng sáng lập CTCP GeneStory, và Giảng viên liên kết tại ĐH VinUni. Trước khi về Việt Nam làm việc, anh là nhà nghiên cứu tin sinh học cấp cao tại ĐH Chicago, học giả sau tiến sỹ tại Trung tâm Ung thư MD Anderson, ĐH Texas sau khi lấy bằng Tiến sỹ về Khoa học máy tính tại ĐH Memphis, Mỹ.
Lĩnh vực nghiên cứu của TS. Nam tập trung vào phân tích và diễn giải dữ liệu y sinh học quy mô lớn. Anh quan tâm tới ứng dụng khoa học dữ liệu và học máy trong y sinh học tính toán nói chung. TS Nam hiện đang lãnh đạo dự án 1000 hệ gen người Việt và một số dự án y sinh học quy mô lớn hướng tới nghiên cứu nguy cơ bệnh và phản ứng có hại của thuốc trên người Việt. Anh cũng đang lãnh đạo dự án xây dựng một số nền tảng quản lý, phân tích và chia sẻ dữ liệu lớn về y sinh học. Các phương pháp của anh đã được áp dụng cho một số bộ dữ liệu lớn nhất thế giới như Bản đồ Hệ gen Ung thư (TCGA) và xuất bản trên các tạp chí khoa học danh tiếng hàng đầu thế giới như Immunity (Cell Press). Một số phương pháp và công cụ do anh phát triển đã được đăng ký bản quyền sáng chế và thương mại hóa cho ứng dụng lâm sàng ở nhiều bệnh viện lớn nhất Việt Nam thông qua CTCP GeneStory mà anh đồng sáng lập. Các công trình của anh đã góp phần xây dựng các ngân hàng sinh học quy mô lớn, hỗ trợ việc hiện thực hóa y học chính xác trong chăm sóc sức khỏe ở Việt Nam và thế giới.
