Brief Method Summary | Uranium from acid leached, dry-ashed and wet-ashed materials is equilibrated with 232U tracer, and is isolated by anion exchange chromatography. The separated U isotopes are microprecipitated for alpha spectrometry (Hindman, 1983; Sill and Williams, 1981; Welford et al., 1960). |
Scope and Application | This procedure has been used to analyze soft tissue, vegetation, water, and air filter samples to determine isotopic uranium. |
Applicable Concentration Range | None given. |
Interferences | None given. |
Quality Control Requirements | Reagent blanks must be analyzed with each set batch of samples to correct the U results. |
Sample Handling | None given. |
Maximum Holding Time | None given. |
Relative Cost | $51 to $200 |
Sample Preparation Methods |
This method has 1 analyte associated with it.
| Analyte | DetectionLevel | Bias | Precision | Pct FalsePositive | Pct FalseNegative | SpikingLevel |
Uranium-234(13966-29-5) | 0.000 Bq/5000 min | 85% Yield | 0.99 % RSD (SL) |
| Precision Descriptor Notes: | Precision value calculated from counter background and count time data. |
| Detection Level Note: | Lower Limit of Detection (LLD) calculated using Pasternack and Harley (1971) procedure in which the smallest amount of sample activity will yield a net count for which there is a confidence at a predetermined level that activity is present. The alpha value utilized is 0.05. |
