- understand and use correctly: to-infinitive

- distinguish the use of gerund and to-infinitive

Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will able to: - understand and use correctly: to-infinitive - distinguish the use of gerund and to-infinitive B. Procedure: Time Activities 20’ 10’ 13’ 2’ I. Grammar * To-infinitive - Give the model: Model: He manages to pass the exam à to pass – To infinitive ( to-V) - Elicit - Ask students to list some Verbs go with to-infinitive and positions of to-infinitive in sentences. - Listen and give feedback + Decide, want, expect, plan, hope, agree, refuse, manage, seem, allow, advise, ask, require, request + to- V * Pay attention: 1 số động từ có thể đi kèm với cả V-ing và to V: - không thay đổi về nghĩa: start, begin, continue, cease (chấm dứt) - có sự thay đổi về nghĩa: * Remember/ forgot + to-inf: nhớ/quên để làm gì Eg: You should remember to do your homework. Remember/ forgot + Ving: nhớ/quên là đã làm gì Eg: Did you remember meeting the president last year? * Regret + to-inf : lấy làm tiếc để làm gì Eg: We regret to say that your application can’t be accepted Regret + Ving : tiếc vì đã làm gì Eg: We regret buying so many newspapers. *Try + to- inf: cố gắng Eg: You should try to get high marks in the exam. Try + Ving : thử Eg: Try learning French and you will find its interesting * Stop + to-inf: dừng việc đang làm để làm việc khác Eg: On the way to school, I stopped to buy a newspaper Stop+ Ving: chấm dứt việc đang làm Eg: I stopped doing my homework II. Exercise Exercise 1. Complete the following sentences using an –ing or to + infinitive I hope .............................( have) a job. Try to avoid..............................( make) him angry. He is thinking of ......................( leave) his job. I hate............................( do) the homework. It’s difficult..............................( get) used to getting up early. Stop...................................(argue) and start..........................( work). I’m looking forward to (hear) from you. Remember (lock) the door before (go) out. My mother advise me (go) to see the doctor. 10. He regrets.................................( spend ) too much on computer. - Give the exercise - Ask Ss to do - Have Ss go to the board and write down the answers - Correct 1. to have 2. Making 3.
