Firefox updates automatically in most cases, but you can manually check for and install updates if needed. Keeping Firefox up to date ensures you have the latest features, security improvements, and compatibility with websites.

Update Firefox
  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton at the right side of the Firefox toolbar, go to Help, and select About Firefox.In the menu bar, open the Firefox menu and choose About Firefox. The About Mozilla FirefoxAbout Firefox window will open.
  2. Firefox will check for updates automatically. Updates are applied after restarting Firefox.

Note: If you're using a version of Firefox installed through your Linux distribution’s package manager, Firefox updates are managed by your system’s software updates. You won’t see update options in the Firefox settings. Configure how Firefox installs updates

If you updated Firefox but cannot open the application or the update does not install properly, try the following:

  • Download the Firefox installer, then close Firefox and run the installer. All of your data will be preserved.
  • Follow the steps in Firefox won't start - find solutions.
  • Restart Firefox, and restart your computer.
