wideboy W Hi guys, First post but its a messy one. I've got a 2006 2.4i V50. Its been an OK car, but we have had loads of electrical issues ( central locking failing on passenger side, full electrical failure on passenger side, external temp sensor failure..) All of these have been fixed under warently, but only to return again for a simlar issue... Today, i have a new one. My wife noticed that we had a leak of some sort showing where we park the car. No error or messages showing in the car. i popped the bonnet to have a look to see if i could spot anything obvious, but nothing to be seen. I checked the oil, which was ok, and closed the bonnet. I then got back into the car to park it in the driveway and when i started the car, the front windscreen wiperes came on and are going flat out. The wiper control switch has no affect when i tried to turn it off. Then on the driver display, a message comes up "Tailgate open", then "Anti Skid Service Required", followed by "SRS Airbag Service Required". The central locking does not work or the mirrors or reversing sensor. The car drives and stops ok but i have only driven around the driveway. I think its more elctrical than mechanical going on the previous issues we have had but i'm not sure what damage will be done if i drive the car as i'm not sure what the leak is.. does anyone have any ideas or has seen anything simliar. The cars just out of warenty, so talk about timing. We have just have the service message come up as well and we have it booked in for the end of the month. Thanks, Kev.. #1 · May 7, 2009 Hi guys, First post but its a messy one. I've got a 2006 2.4i V50. Electrical problem of yours seems pretty major and sounds expensive as well if you have a shop do the diagnosis. My first course of action would be to find out what recalls or as car manufactures like to call them "service campaigns" are out for your particular model. There was a Euro Volvo Tech that use to post on here, can not seem to recall the name. Maybe he/she will respond. If not then post on the Swedespeed and Volvo UK forum for more responses. First thought though that comes to mind are corroded contacts somewhere causing the electrical problem. Good luck. #3 · May 7, 2009 welcome and i would say congrats on your 40, but sorry to hear about the problems. my s60R went into complete melt down of the electrical management system. i would get it to the dealership soon. i don't think it is as severe as mine was, being that the techs had never seen one as bad as mine. more than likely, like mkc posted, it is probably a corroded connection or it just might need an update of the ecm. and please do check for any recalls to tsb's. you can google them and see what is needed before you go to the dealer, that way you can make sure that they are doing what is needed. good luck and please keep us updated as to your situation, your information and experience might be of benefit to someone. #4 · May 7, 2009 Thanks guys. The leak looks more like transmission fluid rather than oil (I'm probably wrong Image ) I've had the car in for all of the Volvo v50 recalls as far as I know and I only had it back to the garage in Feb for the electrics on the passenger door (again) - just before the warranty ran out.. I'm going to try and get it in tomorrow but I'll check tonight to see if there are any recalls that have been missed. I'll post again to let you know what they say and how much it's going to cost but I do think it's going to be expensive. I'm based in Jersey, UK Channel Islands and we only have one main dealer for most of the popular makes and they have us all over a barrel . Cheers, Kevin #5 · May 8, 2009 ooooooooooooooooffffaaaaaaaaaa, sorry to hear that bro. check out for any tsb's also. those are technical service bulletins. if you think that you are being gouged on prices, you can always contact volvo's corporate headquarters, and since there is only one dealership, you might want to complain annonymously, just in case Image #6 · Jul 27, 2009 I had wipers going off full speed in the dry when I switched off the ignition last week. Nothing would stop them and couldn't start the engine weither "Imobilliser see Manual" on the dash. Wipers looked hilarious and people starring at the car etc - only way to stop it was by disconnecting the battery. Then reconnected and in order to start the car disconnected all the main (i.e. large) fuses in the fuse box under the glove box. Car went into Volvo this morning and they say it needs a software re-load which will be done tomorrow. Cost about £150. Sometimes I wish I had an old Volvo 240 with no electrics to go wrong... #7 · Aug 17, 2009 QUOTE (WillT @ Jul 27 2009, 01:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I had wipers going off full speed in the dry when I switched off the ignition last week. UPDATE: Car had the software reload. They said they were only 80% sure that would fix the problem - well it hasn't! We're now onto the next hopeful solution. They say the accelerator sensor is faulty which would explain the loss of power while driving sometimes and possible the cutting out (since the sensor controls the idling too). This will be more expensive - they reckon on ~£400. Currently waiting on the part from Sewden.... #8 · Feb 24, 2011 Regarding passenger side electrical failure on the V50. My fathers V50 2.0D had exactly the same fault - passenger side electrical failure. He was told by the Volvo dealership that the problem was due to something corroding on BOTH DOORS simultaneously, and that looms would have to be replaced - after both doors were stripped down and removed from the inside - he was only going to have to pay a 'soecial price' of £500 for this pleasure. Presuming this was **** I took each fuse out one by one, when I got to removing then replacing the fuse for the central locking passenger side, it all started working again. My guess is that the relay got stuck and by removing / replacing the fuse it sprung back into action. Healthy cynicism or paranoia? Probably a bit of both, either way when it comes to car faults there are so many people out there ready to rip you off it's depressing. Insert Quotes Post Reply
