About Victoria Yards Market

The Victoria Yards Market is held on the first Sunday of every month and makes for a really great day of quirky innovation for anyone that is enjoying the Johannesburg accommodation nearby. This market is different and well worth it for visitors and locals that love to be part of the creative visions of others. For the rest of the month, the resident artisans are still hard at work; and visitors are welcome.

What began as an urban city farm has exploded into an epicentre of art, craft, artisanal skill, and a dedication to deliciousness. The old buildings have been restored to an extent, but many of the raw materials and layers have been left exposed to create a space that is inspiring and rugged. Within these spaces are artists and artisans that have dedicated their lives to creating and celebrating beauty in so many of its different forms. Here, visitors can find beautiful wooden creations, sculptures, paintings, silk-screened goods, glass art, photography, and loads more.

There are gardens where the freshest produce is grown, owl boxes, little meadows to attract bees, and a fish pond (the fishes' waste is used to feed the beautiful plants around it).

The Impi Brewery Company is in an extraordinary building with a glass roof (which lies beneath a 40 000-litre tank) and outdoor tables. The beers produced here are one-of-a-kind, crisp and refreshing. So, after exploring the many different facets of the market and meeting the artists, head to the brewery for ice-cold beers with a difference.

More than just being a place to find unique arts and crafts, Victoria Yards is a platform to uplift local communities. It is a place where people can be trained. They may begin with menial tasks and then be trained all the way through to being the artists' assistants. This gives them invaluable skills that they can use to support their own families and communities.
