Viewsonic Elite XG270QG Vs LG 27GL850? - Linus Tech Tips

XG270QG  LG 27GL850  These are the two monitors I've been staring at the most, along with the Gigabyte M27Q on occasion as a cheaper but still good option, though I doubt most of you would pick that over the first two. I really can't decide which of these I should get. The Gigabyte is there as a "eh maybe I don't need to actually spend that much" option, but personally I do tend to want whatever is generally considered as "the best" for whatever I have. The main differences between the Viewsonic and the LG is  that the LG performs a bit better overall in the response time department and apparently out of the box it looks fairly good without any tuning, it also has HDR but I've heard it's not that great. The Viewsonic does perform worse with response times, but it has a G-Sync module built in along with some other neat features like a headset hook that I know I'd use a lot. The LG from what I've heard handles G-Sync fairly well, but obviously having the actual module inside is better. I'm very indecisive and these 2 monitors are more or less the same with only a few key differences, so it makes it harder for me to pick which one I actually want.  Also as a random side note in case someone tries to (possibly) bring it up, I know the Dell S2721DGF is apparently better than all these monitors, but unfortunately it's not on Newegg's site and I am trying to use my Newegg credit card to purchase the monitor.

I am in pretty much your exact same situation. I actually bought the m27q first but sent it back due to dead on arrival, and was brought to attention that the higher end lg nano ips models exist. For me it is in between the xg270qg and dell s2721dgf, and the only reason I am not just going with dell is because of that g sync module. I've been reading everywhere about the differences between compatible and the real deal. G sync compatible is literally just free-riding the pre-existing amd freesync technology in the monitors that amd provides for free so that people with nvidia graphics cards won't be forced to spend more money on g-sync monitors or stuck with v sync. So, this is actually just G-sync vs Freesync. G-sync is overall just better in all areas and makes sure it works at all frame-rates (below 60) as opposed to freesync.

Another difference are the profiles, and Dell definitely wins here, having the most usable profiles with the least ghosting-inverse ghosting/input lag across all refresh rates (as seen in Hardware Unboxed's reviews of both monitors on youtube). It also has the best color, with dell offering a general icc profile on their website that makes the delta e less than 1.5 without any extra equipment. The last but def not least diff is the price, with the dell and lg actually being on sale at $450 (dell website) and $400 (best buy) respectively compared to the $600 viewsonic). 

Unless you absolutely have to purchase on newegg, you are valuing G sync over g sync compatible to be worth $150-200 dollars by going with the viewsonic. I suggest you also forget about the headphone stand because it is honestly worth 5 dollars are you could makeshift one by taping a stick to the back of your monitor if you really want one. Also, remember that all three are the same panel so they all have 'hdr 400 certification' which is not good enough for hdr and will actually make it look worse if you turn it on.
