Vikas Kumar NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday appointed Vikas Kumar as the managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Kumar, who is currently the director (operations) in the corporation, will be the MD with effect from April 1.“Heartiest congratulations & best wishes to Sh. Vikas Kumar on being appointed as the new MD of DMRC. The metro is Delhi’s lifeline and I hope that DMRC, under your capable guidance, continues to set new benchmarks in top quality public transport,” Delhi’s transport minister Kailash Gahlot tweeted on Wednesday.The transport department issued an order stating the appointment of Kumar in accordance with terms of Article 130 of the Memorandum and Article of Association of DMRC Ltd.
The order also mentions that the appointment has the concurrence of the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs through a letter received by the department on Wednesday.Kumar, an officer of the 1988 batch of Indian Railway Traffic Service, was appointed director (operations) in December last year, prior to which, he was working as executive director (operations). He is an electrical engineering graduate from IIT, Roorkee (1987) and did MTech from IIT, Delhi in 1989. According to sources, Kumar has a working experience of around 32 years, including 14 years with Indian Railways and nearly 18 years with the Delhi Metro.A selection committee chaired by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was constituted earlier this month by the government. The committee, which included Gahlot, additional chief secretary Satya Gopal, and World Resources Institute CEO OP Agarwal, carried out interviews of more than 20 candidates, including many senior officials of DMRC, before zeroing in on Kumar.Kumar is expected to take over the charge from Mangu Singh on Thursday, who was appointed the DMRC MD on December 31, 2011.End of ArticleFOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA
