1/2 www.metaldetectors.co.ukMetal Detectors1 Angela StreetMill Hill, BlackburnBB2 4DJt: +44 (0)1254 55887f: +44 (0)1254 676901e: [email protected].ukUser ManualThank you for your choice in purchasing aViking metal detector.It is important that youread the following instructions carefully sothat you can obtain the maximum benefit andsuccess from your detector.The Viking 1 andViking 5 have identical circuitry and thereforethe operating instructions are the same.How To Tune And Use Your DetectorWhen you have assembled your detector, makesure that the cable is wrapped around the shaftso that it doesn't hang loose.Both detectorsoperate from a single PP3 BATTERY.At the bottom of the control box you will find a drawerwhich slides out.Engraved in the bottom of thedrawer is indicated which way round the batteryis inserted.Fit in a single PP3 battery and slideback in.MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE BATTERY IS PLACED IN THE CORRECT WAYOR THE DETECTOR WILL NOT WORKOn the top of the box you will see two controls,one being OFF-ON-FINE TUNEcontrol - andone being COARSE TUNEWith both controlsfully anti-clockwise, switch the detector ONbyturning the FINE TUNEcontrol clockwise and setit around midway.While holding the detector,position the search head so that it is parallel tothe ground or approx.2 inches (5cm) makingsure that the search head is kept away frommetal.Turn the COARSE TUNEclockwise until asound is heard and then turn slightly back sothat the sound almost disappears.This point isknown as THRESHOLDand is the detectorsmost sensitive position.By adjustment of theFINE TUNEcontrol this will enable you to maintain THRESHOLD.With your detector now tuned to THRESHOLD,by lowering your search head towards theground the faint sound will disappear and byraising the detector the sound will become louder.These are normal reactions and do notnecessarily indicate the presence or lack ofburied objects.Therefore by keeping the search head parallel tothe ground commence by sweeping the groundfrom side to side in an arc fashion with thesearch head as close as possible to the ground.Retuning may be necessary to maintainTHRESHOLD.On hearing a sharp note, this indicates that a small metallic object is presentand a long note indicates a larger object.Strength of note is also dependent on the depthof the object.ONLY PRACTICE USING YOUR DETECTORWILL ENSURE PERFECT USEHeadphone SocketA headphone socket is situated next to the twotuning controls.By plugging in stereo type headphones cuts out the loudspeaker in yourdetector.Headphones give slightly more sensitivity as they cut out external noises, whichcan interfere with your ability to hear weaker signals, which are usually deeperViking 1& Viking 51 Download manual in English (PDF, 0.11 MB) (Consider the environment and only print this manual if it is really necessary)
