I’m not really hip to pricing on these vintage speakers yet. I offered $400 (price plus shipping) and the buyer countered with $470. What kind of price is that (low, average, high)? Should I jump on this or no? I’d rather have a T1281 55 Hz, but you don’t see these vintage speakers for sale too often, I don’t think. I could live with the lead cone, I figure. What do you guys think? mdubya

It is Friday after all. It is a tough call, imho. All prices are crazy right now. I have Pulsonic G12Ms. I also have some 90s Greenback reissues that sound very close. I have played through a set of Ted Weber era Weber G12Ms that were amazing. If you have a great sounding vintage amp, it would be worth it. F

Gotcha. Yeah, I’ll probably just go with a re-issue Heritage if I use something like that. Upwards of $400 seems unlikely to be worth it to me. I’m not one of those guys who think everything modern is shite. Still, the Vintage stuff does have a little magic in it sometimes. mdubya

IMHO, current reissues only "look" like the originals. They don't "sound" like them. I have digital IRs that sound more like real vintage speakers than almost any currently available real speakers. That is part of why I am sold on digital, personally. I would look at something like Weber. Current Celestion reissues don't sound very good, IMHO. I don't even like the way Scumbacks sound, though many think they are great. I have some Warehouse Guitar Green Berets and they sound kind of like 70s black backs to me, but they don't have anything like the magic of vintage Pulsonics. Last edited: Oct 9, 2021 F

I was looking to mix a Celestion G12H30 70th Anniversary with a Ruby Alnico in a 212 combo and a fellow forum member on The Gear Page was able to make me a short guitar sample through that exact combination using Celestion’s IRs. It was very convincing and definitely enlightened me as to what that would sound like. Very cool indeed. Digital does have an upside. You must log in or register to reply here.
