Create or download VR models
Would like to start by finding pre-existing 3D models or creating your own 3D models to put into your VR world? Check out the online 3D model repositories and modelling software for VR on this page.
3D Model Repositories for VR
- Adobe StockAdobe Stock offers royalty-free high-quality 3D models and free, community-uploaded models.
- cgtraderFree 3D models available for download, available in MAX, OBJ, STL, C4D, BLEND, MA, MB, etc.
- ClaraFree Online 3D Modeling, Rendering, Sharing and Models.
- PolyPoly is a repository of open-source 3D models that you can import into your Unity or A-Frame VR project.
- SketchfabThe world’s largest platform to publish, share and discover 3D content online and in VR.
VR Modelling Software
Note: You might remember some of the following software programs from our 3D resource guide. However, keep in mind that CAD software (such as TinkerCAD, AutoCAD, etc) is best used to create prototypes and models that are to be 3D printed as opposed to VR animations, as the files may poorly in game engines.
- BlenderBlender is a free and open source 3D animation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation. Advanced users employ Blender’s API for Python scripting to customize the application and write specialized tools; often these are included in Blender’s future releases.
- Daz StudioDaz Studio is a free 3D program that allows you to choose from and customize characters and scenes, that you can then animate in order to create VR environments. They also have easy-to-follow video tutorials for beginners.
- SculptrisSculptris provides an excellent gateway into the exciting world of 3D. It's features are easy to learn, even for someone with no experience in digital art, yet robust enough for creating base models that can then be refined in other applications.
- ZBrushCoreMiniZBrushCoreMini is a free digital sculpting software designed for new artists of all ages. It has a streamlined interface that lets anyone jump right in and start sculpting immediately.
