S211 646 2009 (till the Gov't drones blow 'em off the road) Mrs Me would like for me to buy her one, in the 2.4 D Drive e, and as an auto would be the more likely. at around 2009 / 2010 I believe they all have a DPF as standard. Her usage is a 7 mile 2 way commute with occasional long journeys. We can live with the diesel not being best suited to short journeys but my concern is of the DPF issues she might experience. Around here a weekly or fortnightly 30 minute run to regenerate isn't feasible. That would be on very occasional long journeys when I'm driving. For a Merc I wouldn't entertain the thought, but are Volvo's any better with their DPF's?

SUPPORTER Joined Mar 5, 2015 Messages 5,004 Location Essex Car s320 Most of the mercedes I know would not even be up to temperature,no hot air in car when it gets cold,doubt the volvo will be any different,given the 7 miles trip I never thought I would post this but for the size of vehicle I put forward the Vauxhall Antara in 4x4 trim 2012 £6000 with 70 grand they are cheap and do the job,plenty around because they were the vehicle of choice for all those people who trade their disability for a car and so it is big /high of the ground in 4x4 mode it will cope with bad weather and run it for 6 years and it has piad for itself,I know I have been on the wine all afternoon

I had a 2008 Volvo C30 drive and it’s dpf clogged up regularly, even with long trips, conversely my 2010 xc70 with the d3 engine did 160k in my ownership and never had an issue with anything, ever, I think the 2.4d is a slightly older design and you need more to worry about the cambelt and tensioner failing and destroying the engine. I doubt a Volvo will give you much grief based on my experiences of them.

Joined Mar 22, 2015 Messages 596 Car C219 CLS 500, W447 Vito 119 CDI Our previous car for 5 years was a 2008 Volvo C70 D5 (same 5 cylinder engine). It was used almost exclusively around town & never suffered any DPF issues. I was a member on the Volvo owners website & I read countless DPF problems with the 1.6 & 2.0 diesel engines, never with the 2.4D / D5. I think the difference was that the 1.6 & 2.0 were Peugeot / Ford engines & the 2.4 was Volvo. The 2.4D / D5 is a very good engine btw. You must log in or register to reply here.
