(A) The Yardstick Pen ( Jinhao X750 - The black one )

A while back I put a bunch of pens up against each other to try and find a pen to use as a yardstick , so I had something to compare too .

The winner just happened to be the Jinhao X750 and it was completely factory stock .

( B) Since then I always wanted to try another X750 to see if it was pure *** that I got a really nice X750 .

So here we are , the X750 has been sitting in a box for quite some time ( Maybe months ? )

I cleaned all my 992 and they are drying now .

The opportunity and time was there to ink the Cream X750 and put it against the yardstick ...

Cream X750 (2) ..............

I was some what amazed , it was really hard to tell the difference between the two pens .

The X750 (2) canted left hard and canted right hard and still wrote ( Smooth ) .

So lightening does strike twice !

Is there a difference = Yes ..

The first X750 ( Yardstick ) is a fraction softer / smoother .. I mean a Bee's tit smoother and softer .

So at this time I have to amend any Chinese pen recommendation I have made ..

If these two pens are the NORM (?) , your first Chinese fountain pen just might have to be the Jinhao X750 .

Cartridge Converter ..... The cartridge converter that came with the cream X750 was not good ( too lose a fit ) and had to be replaced ..

I found that my lone x750 was a fine writer but the manufacturing on the threads was way sloppy. I had to resort to plumbers tape to keep the body from unscrewing from the section every time I used it. My two x450's are equally fine writers but manufactured to much finer tolerances.

I share the same experience, my X750 (red lava) is a nice writer, the nib is stiff but very smooth and has a nice flow.

The barrel/section threads are sloppy, like in many other Chinese pens (excluding some of the very recent wing sung models).

Also slightly too heavy for my liking, although the pen balance is quite ok, particularly unposted. I keep it in my office drawer as a back up pen in case other more expensive pens fail me...

It also tends to dry out when left capped for more than a few days, I too had to change the converter...

It's still a good starting point in chinese pens though, given the very cheap price shipment included.

My converter is not working either. Pen just arrived. Where shall I order replacement to be sure it works, please?

You can order 5 packs or 10 packs for like a few dollars .. ( Ebay ) Just double check the size of the hole

    • inkstainedruth My notes and advice on fountain pen cleaning @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
    • alkman My notes and advice on fountain pen cleaning There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh My notes and advice on fountain pen cleaning Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺
    • Mercian My notes and advice on fountain pen cleaning Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
    • Ceilidh My notes and advice on fountain pen cleaning My long lost twin! I thought I was the only one still hoarding so much film in the freezer (since the early 2000s). But digital gear has come a long way since then, and I finally converted a while ago. I'm planning to reclaim the freezer space, but I have no idea what to do with the film.
