So, how to align the notch of dist cap? (The gray color)
Or this needs to be moved when you're starting the car? Thanks. #1 · Aug 9, 2014 Hi, What's going on everybody? My question is about the alignment of the distributor, someone told me that it's point to the end of the cylinder head. (Viewing from left to right) I know the mark of it:

You can leave the cap/cover thing on that goes UNDER the rotor. Timing the engine.. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3281138 #3 · Aug 9, 2014 set the cam and crank to TDC remove the distributor cap to see the rotor and notch loosen the 13mm crow foot bolt on the distributor rotate it clockwise 6* according to the picture now you are set btw the engine should be off for this proceedure.... also there is a notch on the flywheel (factory) which indicates 6*BTDC you can rotate the crank to line this up and then set the distributor directly in line with the mark there is no reason or benefit from setting the distributor to any other position... infact it may cause troubleshooting issues because you have advanced (ping) or retarded the ignition to compensate for problems with the air/fuel ratio -- ie vacuum leaks or fuel delivery problems #4 · Aug 9, 2014 You need to perform a static mechanical timing of the engine where the crankshaft, camshaft, and distributor are correctly aligned. Have explained this numerous times previously, so either search or get a Bentley. Good luck,WWR. Insert Quotes Post Reply - ?
