VW Multivan Receives 5-star Rating From Euro NCAP

“In the third round of testing this year, the MPV produced in Hannover scored very well in terms of crash safety and assistance systems and was thus given the organization's "five-star” rating. That represents an outstanding overall mark for impact protection and indicates that the vehicle is well equipped with extensive, practical crash avoidance technology,” said Volkswagen in a recent press release.

The VW Multivan scored 90 percent in Adult Occupant safety, 89 percent in Child Occupant protection, 69 percent in its Vulnerable Road Users assessment, and 87 percent in the Safety Assist category.

These results are all thanks to the Multivan’s safety features including a driver airbag, a front-seat passenger airbag, a center airbag and side airbags in the cockpit, plus curtain airbags all the way back to the third row of seats.

In addition, the tested model — a VW Multivan eHybrid — was equipped with an AEB system.

Euro NCAP praised this feature and commented, “the AEB system performed well in tests of its response to other vehicles, with impacts avoided in most test scenarios.” Furthermore, the tested VW Multivan had a speed assistance system that “combines camera information with digital mapping to identify local speed limits and presents this information to the driver, allowing the limiter to be set appropriately,” and a lane support system that “gently corrects the vehicle’s path if it is drifting out of lane and intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations.”
