W124 Wiper Problem | Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

I have read Parrot of Doom's guide to lubricating the wiper, but the large mechanism cover at the bottom on my W124 is made of alloy and not plastic. I had a quick go at prising it loose but it's not moving at all! The only fixing I can see (Using a mirror!) is a crosshead screw right underneath the bottom of the mechanism-i.e. can't get a screwdriver near it! Does anyone know how to get this alloy cover off on the W124? Many thanks.

Guys Ever since I have had the 300TE, the front wiper hasn't worked on full speed. Intermittent works fine, but both the slow and fast "on" settings go at the same speed. Just recently, I have noticed that the wiper is slowing down, particularly in drizzle when the screen isnt very wet. Is this likely to be a new motor job ? Thanks.teddycatkin

Faulty switch / contact --for the fast speed setting ---and not enough lubrication for the slowing down? OPMercedes 190E

OK-I'm going to have a go at lubricating the wiper mechanism. Just had a look-the top plastic cover is easy to get off, but it stops there....SilverSaloon

The early metal covers need to be unbolted from underneath IRRC which means unbolting the entire wiper mechanism to get access. Worth doing when you find out the price of a replacement! Try checking with a mirror round the lower edge. http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor First of all you need to put the bonnet in the upright position. Try to stop the wiper in the upright/central position by switching the ignition off during the sweep. Then you need to pull up the two trims that run along the bottom of the windscreen. This will expose several screws that hold the three sections of black plastic trim with the vents in it. Remove the screws and remove the trims. There are two white plastic pull out retaining clips, one on each side just under the trim that join the three pieces together, these just pull out towards the engine. You will also need to remove the trim that sits under the rubber seal around the engine firewall, there are four black thumb turn screws that come off some studs that stick out just behind the engine. Once exposed, remove the semi-circular trim and rubber seal around the base of the wiper arm, again this should just pull out. There are four nuts which hold the wiper mechanism brackets onto the bulkhead. Undo these nuts and pull the complete mechanism up and out, making sure to pull the connector plug out of the back. Turn the mech over and remove the screws in the base. Squirt the spray grease in there, the more the better. Some will find its way out of the joints but don't worry. I also sprayed some down the two small holes where the push rod comes out. Re-fitting is the reverse, make sure you don't get any grease on the blade or windscreen! It sounds complicated but it really isn't, just makes your back ache a bit! OPMercedes 190E

Your Mercedes W202 I cant speak for a W124 but on my W202 the N10 relay controls the intermittent setting only, it doesn’t have any involvement with the slow and fast speeds I checked this when I repaired the relay, I removed the relay from the car and found the wiper speeds 2 & 3, the slow and fast, still worked without the relay being fitted in the car. Not sure, but I would think the W124 relay will work in much the same way as the W202. Dec You must log in or register to reply here.
