What Is FTTH And What Are The Differences With HFC Installation?
Today, most of us have access to the internet from our own home. In addition, we are always looking for better and better ways to enjoy all the services of the internet and improve the speed of WiFi.
But sometimes we wonder how it works and through which cables the internet reaches our home. That is why today we show you what FTTH is and what are the differences with the installation of HFC.

Before starting to explain its installation, you will surely wonder what FTTH and HFC are. Well, here we give you a simple explanation. For starters, the name FTTH means Fiber to the Home, or in Spanish, fiber optics to the home. It consists of an almost transparent wire cable, which may well be made of glass or plastic.
And the name HFC means Hybrid Fiber Coaxial, which in Spanish means hybrid coaxial fiber. This cable is a cheap solution to the great demand for internet connection around the world. But, it remains to be seen how a hybrid coaxial fiber network works.
Well, it consists of a single fiber cable that distributes the internet to different homes, thanks to smaller individual cables that enter each house.
What types of fiber are there?
Before comparing the installation of the mentioned cables, it is worth mentioning the types of fibers that exist in order to compare them. Fiber is a broadband access that allows the desired connection, but mostly avoiding the use of copper.

- FTTN: or Fiber to the Node, this fiber uses a node to connect to a coaxial cable that reaches the home that needs the connection.
- FTTA: also Fiber to the Antenna, allows a better speed when connecting the fiber to a telephone antenna.
- FTTB: which stands for Fiber to the Building, is one that is used in buildings and, through different cables, allows the connection to reach each house.
- FTTC: or Fiber to the Cabinet, is the fiber that reaches a maximum distance of 300 meters from a building to bring it connection.
- FTTH: or, as we already explained, Fiber to the Home, which is the one that goes directly to the home.
Although there is a wide variety of fibers that allow you to bring the internet to your home, we always recommend that you always use the best network cable so that you can connect to the internet in the best way.
What are the differences with FTTH and HFC installation?
Although the two fibers are really useful and viable options, there are certain differences to take into account when choosing one.
To begin with, one of the biggest differences is that the FTTH cable does reach the home directly without the need for some other cable, but the HFC does not reach the house, but it is a coaxial cable that connects it with the home in question.
Another big difference is the price. FTTH is more expensive than HFC, since it is made of a much more expensive material than the other. On the other hand, if you want a quick and inexpensive solution, HFC is your thing. Thanks to its cheap but strong material, HFC is a really convenient option.

This fiber allows that, despite long distances or interference, the speed of the Internet is not affected by problems, making every penny of the cost worth it. And, although there are some differences between fiber optics and other fibers, we can assure you that it is an excellent option to connect to the internet.
Whichever fiber you choose, we always encourage you to look for a good quality WiFi router or modem . You can get it in an official quality store, either online like Amazon, or a physical store of your choice.
We hope that all this information can be useful to you, and that it helps you to always look for the best ways to enjoy a fast and quality internet.
