I'm trying to decide between two different monitors.
lg 27gn950: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27gn950-b-gaming-monitor
32" Odyssey G7 Gaming Monitor: https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/32--odyssey-g7-gaming-monitor-lc32g75tqsnxza/
I basically want an all in one monitor that has good image quality and fast refresh rates and response time for gaming.
The LG monitor has a 4K resolution, hdr, and a 144hz refresh rate at a good price point too. The Samsung Odyssey has a 1440 100R curved screen with 240 hz refresh rate, so it is the superior choice for gaming. But I wondering how the curved screen would work for viewing content?
I think higher resolution beats the refresh rate but the Odyssey has QLED so could it beat the 4K Nano IPS panel, but would the curve screen distort the image when viewing at a distance?

Posted July 28, 2020 This is a tough question to answer. Technically the G7 is superior, but it does have some issues right now awaiting firmware updates. Adaptive Sync causes flickering if you're on the order of supported refresh rates. The curve is quite extreme so only you can judge whether it's something that will work for you. I'm waiting on my 27" one that will only ship in September.

Oh okay I see. I'll wait to see it in stores before I make any decisions. But what makes you say that the G7 is superior? Is it bec of the QLED? Or refresh? Do those matter when comparing to 4K and panel type?

Some reviews are out, and Hardware Unboxed (a pretty respected channel) has basically said this is probably one of the top gaming monitors on the market. It's almost TN level fast with all the VA benefits of wide colour gamut and deep blacks. One thing they really don't like is the curve. Some like it some don't, so that has to be seen in person.

The g7 killed alot of monitors, if u don't have a problem with the 1000R and VA panel, it's THE monitor for 700usd. QLED isn't anything special, but the panel is.
4k/144hz will be the standard in a few years, but for now 1440p provides a better experience overall.

G7 is very good indeed, the specs and details the reviews are very positive, However the curve puts me off. It's even more curver then the others. I wish they made the same monitor that wasn't curved

One thing that LG has over any other display (that i know of) is combination of fast IPS panel with hardware calibration capability.
If this display has good uniformity and well controlled IPS glow it wold be pretty much the best choice for my usecase (games+photo editing).
PS. why 4K on 27"?
For my eyes 1440p is the sweet spot.

Hmm it seems like I’ll have to see both monitors in person before making a purchase.
I want 4K resolution for content consumption and the occasional video editing. i know I could get a LG CX OLED but I just don’t have enough desk space for it.
