I am looking to upgrade my laptop and make a SSD the boot drive while using it in conjunction with my hard drive.

    I am confused between Crucial MX500 ($45) vs. Crucial BX500 ($31) vs. Kingston A400 ($28).

I am aware that MX500 is obviously better but, is it worth the price difference? since i am in a tight budget.

Also I am looking at 240 gb versions of each of them since my primary need is to increase boot up times, and general snapiness of windows.

I am not a professional and just a casual user with little to no gaming.

Because you are a casual user, with non competitive gaming, any ssd should do fine, and as you won't be needing too much performance, i would say going for the Kington A400 is the best option, as I am running the same one ( 240 gig model ) and it works very good for me. :)

Pretty much all SATA SSDs perform similar overall. As all of the mentioned SSDs are DRAM-less, no one of these is better than any other SSD. So just go for the chepest model that has the capacity you need.

Edit: As you are not a demanding user, really any SSD will do just fine.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

As your primary need is to increase boot up times, and general snapiness of windows.

the Kingston A400 or Crucial BX500 would do

only difference will be noticed will be the system snappiness when there is windows update or game updates running in the background if any

The MX500 does have a DRAM cache - it's pretty much on par performance-wise with the 860 EVO.

It's the BX500 and A400 that are DRAMless and similarly unimpressive.
