Đừng như chó chê mèo lắm lông. Xảy ra khá thường xuyên tại Wikipedia là hiện tượng một thành viên viết một lời nhắc nhở người khác về thái độ văn minh nhưng lại dùng một giọng không lịch sự. Đôi khi, một người gọi người khác bằng những từ ngữ không hay trong khi nhắc nhở họ không nên công kích cá nhân. Và tất nhiên, luôn luôn có những người cho rằng người khác không có thiện ý, hoặc những người tham gia bút chiến tuyên bố rằng "Không, chính phe kia mới là người bút chiến".
Thật mỉa mai. "Phải, nhưng anh ta gây chuyện trước" là một lời biện bạch không thỏa đáng, và nó sẽ không bảo vệ bạn tránh khỏi bất cứ hậu quả nào của hành vi của mình. Đơn giản là đừng làm vậy.
Khi nhắc nhở một người dùng khác về một quy định hoặc hướng dẫn về hành vi, bạn nên tự xét xem gần đây mình có làm theo quy tắc đang nói đến hay không. Nếu không, một cuộc cãi vã lê thê về các lập luận sẽ là chuyện dễ xảy ra.
Thử giới hạn

Hiện tượng này khá thường gặp ở những người muốn thử các giới hạn. Thường thì một người dùng sẽ hành động quá lên để chơi đùa với hệ thống, thực hiện các thay đổi đi ngược lại tinh thần hay lời lẽ của quy định. Người dùng này sẽ (thường là cố ý) dụ dỗ các thành viên khác đi đến chỗ phản ứng với thiên hướng chọc giận, nhằm bẻ cong các quy tắc, và sẽ lập tức buộc tội thiếu văn minh cho các thành viên khác. Trong số những người dùng này có thể có cả người cố ý lẫn người ít ác ý.
Wikipedia khuyến khích các thành viên giữ một cái đầu lạnh và thảo luận trước tại các trang thảo luận.
